We stayed at Vida Mejor in August 2019. After doing the usual search online, we found this place and booked using their own website. Being on a budget, we were looking for somewhere that wouldn't break the bank and Vida Mejor was well priced and reasonable for the facilities that they have. We have 3 kids, so the house was a good size for all of us.
The house is apart of a complex of 4 town houses, which are situated approximately 400m from the beach. The beach is easily accessible and not as busy as those to the south, the water is calm and good for kids too. Make sure to bring snorkelling masks! Your'e a quick walk to shops and restaurants as well. To the north there is a marine reserve (5 min walk) and if you walk for 10 min you will reach The Colony Club. Speight town was only about 10-15min on the bus.
The patio area is large enough for the whole family. We sat outside and the kids could play in the pool or go inside if things got too hot for them. There is a humming bird feeder outside, fill it up (i made up a syrup of golden syrup and water) and you will have humming birds visit all day.
The pool is a good size. From photos it's hard to tell how big it is, but it was big enough for myself and the 3 kids. Depth is 3ft in the shallow end by the steps and 5ft in the deep end.
We stared at 'waterfall', which has 2 well sized bedrooms. Our room had a king size bed, the other room I believe also has a single and a king size, but the owner organised the room, so we had 3 singles in this room for our 3 kids. Both bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms, good size wardrobes in each room, ceiling fans and the all important airconditioner!
The kitchen has everything you would need for some basic cooking, oven, microwave, dishwasher and a large American style fridge/freezer with the all important ice maker! We only cooked once or twice in the 11 nights there, but it was handy to cook stuff for the kids. There is also a BBQ at waterfall, it was a charcoal BBQ, but Carlton (The owner) said he could wheel around the gas BBQ should we want it. Charcoal at the supermarket was not cheap, so if you want to use it, maybe Carlton could advise if it can be purchased elsewhere cheaper? There is a blender in the kitchen cupboard and it is very good for making Pina Coladas, Daiquiris etc!
Downstairs is open-plan with kitchen-dining area and a living area. There's a breakfast bar in the kitchen and a large dining table. The living area has enough seating for everyone & a TV (with heaps of cable channels!). Our apple tv plugged straight into the TV and the wifi is at a good speed for streaming (for a rainy day....).
There is a utility room with a washing machine and a clothes drier, clothes line outside. This is great, so you dont need to pack too much!
As our kids are fussy eaters, so we packed a suitcase of some of their favourites and other stuff for breakfasts. If you haven't been to Barbados before, the prices of things here might surprise you! We even packed peanut butter, marmite etc and if we did this again, we would pack more.
top tip, if you like making Daiquiris etc. I emptied the ice maker each night, placing ice into a container, so I heaps of ice for the next day. Dont forget to buy bitters, nutmeg, sugar syrup (simple syrup) and fresh pressed lime juice (supermarket vegetable section) &.... a big bottle of Mt Gay Eclipse!
The apartment was cleaned about twice a week (from memory) and it was always clean and tidy.
The Owner was great and if we had any issues, we would just send him a whatsapp message. He has a car rental business too and their office is a 1 min walk away, should you need to see them in person, or to rent a car...
On the main road next to the cricket pitch, during the day, there are vendors who sell local food from their vans. I highly recommend this, good value and really tasty!
