About the neighbourhood
Auckland Castle is situated in the historic town of Bishop Auckland in the Vale of Durham, a lively market town with a fascinating 2,000 year heritage. History lovers can experience Durham’s rich heritage brought to life at award-winning attractions including Beamish Museum, the UK’s largest open air Museum, and Locomotion: The National Railway Museum at Shildon. Plus, no visit to the county would be complete without a visit to majestic Durham Cathedral and Castle - a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the heart of Durham City. For more dramatic architecture, head to the Durham Dales and uncover the history behind Raby Castle, where the medieval exterior hides the opulent home of Lord Barnard, who still makes Raby his home today.
Getting around
You do not need a car to go into the centre of Sedgefield. There are also buses to Durham and Darlington.
