Chateau d' Hallines was built as a large family home, with beautiful reception rooms to entertain in great style. Over the years it has been host to many spectacular parties and weddings. It has recently been refurbished to sleep 26 in 12 rooms and 11 bathrooms. The large reception rooms are filled with comfy sofas, and the dining room table can be expanded to seat thirty. This is a house where the emphasis is on groups having fun, whether a celebration for friends or families holidaying together. There is a library with a home-cinema, a snooker room, a playroom with table-tennis and table football, an indoor mini-tennis court - even a high-ceilinged room with a full-size trampoline in it. The house is easy to get to, especially from the U.K., being just a thirty minute drive from the Channel Tunnel, and two and a half hours from Paris. This is a region that is rich in history. Saint Omer is a beautiful medieval city with a market and cathedral. There is much to see nearby in connection with both World Wars, including the famous La Coupole museum. The beaches of the Opal Coast are 45 minutes away. More

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

We’ve just back from our 2nd amazing visit to Château d’Hallines, we decided we just had to go back to celebrate my husband’s 60th. The house is stunning inside and out. As a group, we have stayed in many large French houses over the last 25 years and Château d’Hallines is without doubt, the best, and its location makes travelling easy, with lots to see and do nearby. I booked the Château treasure hunt for the afternoon of our party, followed by a Hawaiian BBQ. The tables were set up in the courtyard between the house and the stables and it was magical - The entire day was about fun and laughter. The treasure hunt was fun, and Alain who hosted it for us was extremely helpful. We ran around the Château and grounds laughing like kids, all coming together at the end to solve the clues and reveal where the treasure was hiding. We had the best fun with it and enjoyed drinking and eating the treasure! The weather was fantastic and wild swimming in the River Aa was a Godsend, we also had a paddle board and 2 canoes! We had lovely days lazing in the garden, some of us playing tennis, as well as fun on the beaches at Wissant and Le Touquet. Thanks Amanda and Dan for keeping the château to such a high standard - it’s incredible - and for being so helpful upon our arrival. We all loved experiencing the château in the summer as well as our last trip in the winter. Just a wonderful and relaxing time for us all. Our next visit is already in discussion!

My husband and I got married at the Chateau d'Halllines this July, after a long 3 years of planning & covid delays. Amanda and Dan were absolutely amazing from start to finish - they were so understanding & accommodating when we needed to make changes. They kept in regular contact but also gave us the freedom to plan the wedding we wanted. Dan spent the days before making sure the château was in top top condition and on the day, Amanda was like a fairy godmother ninja making sure everything ran smoothly! The chateau is even more stunning in real life with everything you could possibly think of. I think it will be very busy next summer as nearly all our guests said they wanted to go back fro their holidays! We are so glad we stuck with it as it is the wedding venue of dreams :-)

We stayed in the chateau for a week in July, celebrating a friend`s 60th birthday. The trip had had to be postponed a couple of times due to Covid, but the owner, Amanda, showed a lot of flexibility and helped us find our eventual new dates. We had seen the promotional video and heard from friends who had previously visited, but we were not prepared for just how wonderful the place was. All the comfortable bedrooms were tastefully-decorated and furnished to a high standard. The communal living areas were sumptuous, and the huge, modern kitchen was incredibly well-equipped, with everything we could need for catering for our group of 23. Outside, the grounds were very well kept, with lawns and ancient trees for welcome shade, plus a river running through, which was a welcome source of fun and refreshment. We also loved the fire pit, and many of us enjoyed a game of tennis. The stables and bar were great for eating and entertaining. We ate outside most of the time, and we had everything we needed, including a huge barbecue and drinks fridge. One afternoon, we had a treasure hunt, which was organised by the owner. This was a lot of fun, and we got to see all the previously undiscovered nooks and crannies of the house and grounds, such as the amazing trampoline room on the top floor! The owners have lovingly restored the chateau to its former glory, and are very keen to ensure that their guests want for nothing. I would highly recommend a holiday there, and very much hope to go back one day!

This is the second time our party stayed at the chateau. We had been in the winter of 2019 for a special occasion and had a magical stay. This time, the summer heat beckoned and we were enthralled by the grounds and long bike rides. The rooms are so big and airy that even outside temperatures of 30 degrees plus didn't have too much effect. Even though we were a party of 20+ we never felt cramped or on top of each other as the property is so huge and well equipped, there's always somewhere to hide and relax if that's your thing. The tennis court is well kept and very close to the house and the addition of a fire pit in the woods was a wonderful way to end an evening. For the more adventurous there's wild water swimming in the river, but the rumour of a swimming pool perhaps coming soon would be the cherry on top. The treasure hunt was very well organised and enormous fun, it really brought out the competitive spirit in our party. Don't hesitate to book the chateau if you are a group of people who get along and want to have an experience you'll talk about for years to come. We loved it. A huge thank you to Amanda for all her help and attention to our needs during our stay, a wonderful host.

Celebrating four belated birthdays, 23 of us stayed at the Chateau d' Hallines. Wow what a fabulous place! The facilties were excellent . All the rooms were absolutely amazing, and the kitchen was extremely well equipped and spacious! The grounds are superbly kept, with a tennis court, bikes, fire pit, out door dining area and plenty of sun loungers. On one of our days we had arranged with the Chateau owners a treasure hunt which we all throughly enjoyed. Looking forward to our next visit!

This was my second visit, the first was in the winter and was absolutely fantastic, this visit in the summer was just as good in a slightly different way as we spent much time outside. Its a magical place whether winter or summer. The bedrooms are so comfortable and stylish. Each with a theme and colour scheme. We were a group of 24 adults and what fun we had, spending days swimming in the river, playing tennis, playing games on the lawns, or just chilling with a good book and glass of wine in the expansive grounds. On one of our days Amanda organised a treasure hunt around the house and grounds. This was great fun and very exciting, working in teams to solve the clues and win the prize. Don't tell anyone else but my team was the best😊 The stable area with BBQ was a great space for us all to cook and eat together. With an enormous well equipped and organised kitchen for food prep. We had 2 big celebrations during our stay, with everything we needed to prepare for the parties. This is an amazing place to host a special event, hold a party or as we did to have a lovely holiday with parties. Thanks so much, i really hope i will be back.

We had the most amazing week end in the Chateau! It's huge and even better than the pictures. It was like living the Downton Abbey experience - a real treat. Amanda, the owner, was really helpful and made it so easy. Our party was made of 20 adults and 10 kids and there was something for everyone. The outdoor dinner area in the old Stable was perfect for all 30 of us to chill out and the barbecue super useful to feed an army easily. The tennis court is amazing, the bikes great, the snooker table awesome and the ground just beautiful. The kids absolutely adored the trampoline, ping pong and loved having their own space on the last floor of the chateau. We tried the local Rando Rail which was a great experience for a group of 30 with kids from 8 to 16 years old. And all bedrooms are splendid, huge and have their own style with and en-suite bathroom and beds are super comfy. I couldn't recommend it enough. We will certainly be back!

Sixteen of us stayed at the big chateau for four nights between 20-24th April 2022 with an age range of 8-82! Like others, this stay had been booked before Covid, so it had been long awaited and had to be rearranged for obvious reasons. However, nothing was too much trouble for Amanda in helping us to reorganise our stay and answer all our queries quickly and efficiently The chateau exceeded all our expectations. Everything was of a high standard in terms of cleanliness, maintenance and provision and there was nothing we wanted that wasn't available, from games facilities to crockery and cutlery and even a stocked larder. We took up the option of having a meal prepared for our first night by the housekeeper, Sylvie - the beef bourguignon was superb. We also decided to have Vincent, the private chef, provide a special meal for us to help kickstart wedding celebrations for two of our party marrying next month. Everything worked as a very well oiled machine and helped the difficulties experienced over the past weeks and months dissolve as soon as we arrived. I would highly recommend a stay here in a big house in a small village with a big heart

I’m not sure I have the words to write this review and give it the justice if deserves! We arranged this trip pre covid for our post wedding celebrations with family and friends. Amanda was more than accommodating when covid-19 hit and changed our booking due to the pandemic and the chaos it caused! Like many others our wedding plans had been put into jeopardy and things were looking a little glum. We finally got married and could put our Chateau plans back into action. When we arrived everything fell into place and we had the most incredible few days. The attention to detail is beyond anything I’ve ever seen before and we felt like royalty. The location was fabulous and we visited the local historic sights, St Omer and of course a bar or two! Our family made full use of the snooker room, trampoline room, bikes, mini tennis and all the other activities and treasures that this chateau holds. The kitchen was well equipped for large groups and dinner was a pleasurable experience that we could all enjoy together around the grand dining room table. The bedrooms are breathtaking. We were astounded at how clean and well presented they were. The beds and bed linen were so good that my friend found the exact same from the UK and purchased it online……along with myself and two others! The pillows and duvet’s were to die for - we didn’t want to get up in the morning. The bakers just down the road provided us with fresh pastries and bread the days we were there (collected via bike of course just minus the basket!) What a fabulous weekend. If you are looking for high end accommodation in France with exquisite decor and finishing touches then this is the Chateau for you. Thank you Amanda & Dan xx

About the neighbourhood
The château is on the edge of the village of Hallines. We are 400 metres from the village bakery. Saint Omer is a ten minute drive away. It has dominated the region for a thousand years, and is a wonderful city to wander around. As well as the cathedral and other landmarks, there are dozens of restaurants and cafés - as well as excellent shopping. Dennlys Theme Park is nearby and popular with kids. There is a lovely wine shop that is five minutes away (and can deliver), and local street markets: Saint Omer on Saturday morning and Wizernes on Sunday morning.
Getting around
A car is highly recommended. The house is convenient for the Channel Tunnel and the ferries that arrive at Calais. Calais Frethun and Lille are the nearest major rail stations. The nearest airports are in Lille, Brussels and Paris. There is a taxi company in the village.
