Holiday Rental House
Glencoldon Cottage is in the village of Boat of Garten, 6 miles from Aviemore, in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. It has recently been fully renovated to modern high-spec; also gaining a Green Tourism Gold Award for its eco-friendly features, like sunpipes, solar panels and a garden enhanced for wildlife. It is ideal for 4-6 people. There are no hidden extra costs, with all heat, power, and log usage for the wood burning stove, included in the rental. As the cottage garden opens onto the Speyside Way, we have made sure all the facilities are available to make it fully cycle-friendly, from secure bike shelter to clothes washing / drying. As a natural wildlife haven too, the spacious balcony deck area, with views to the Cairngorms, allows you to fully immerse in your tranquil...Glencoldon Cottage is in the village of Boat of Garten, 6 miles from Aviemore, in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. As a natural wildlife haven too, the spacious balcony deck area, with views to the Cairngorms, allows you to fully immerse in your tranquil surroundings, and enjoy the visits of the local red squirrels, deer and huge range of birds. The village is on the River Spey between Aviemore and Grantown-on-Spey, and is ideally located for easy access to the huge range of attractions and outdoor activities that the area is renowned for. Grantown-on-Spey also marks the start of the world famous Whisky Trail. The large child-friendly 'wild' garden has direct gate access to the forest behind the cottage (with many local walks and scenic routes to the shops) and opens to the 65-mile Speyside Way to the front (running alongside the famous Strathspey Steam Railway – you can see this running past several times a day!). The garden is partly an extension of the surrounding forest and partly an area where you can enjoy a barbeque, or a game of volleyball, badminton or mini-football on the small lawn. More

Interaction with guests
The thing I love most when arriving at the cottage is the instant peace! As this is one of the reasons many guests visit the Cairngorms too, we decided we would not divert you from starting to unwind with a welcome party, but would just make sure you have all you need to get into the cottage and quickly make yourselves at home. I have been lucky enough to spend time at the cottage for 50+ years! So, having enjoyed all the local highlights ourselves, and with our own children too, we are more than happy to share our knowledge. We realise many people come with their own adventure already planned, but, for others, we provide maps and information on local favourites; and leave you many ways to get in touch if you want some help with any plans.

This cottage exceeded our expectations. So spacious for the 4 of us, cozy and spotlessly clean. Great location. We didn't bring the car and didn't regret it. Hope to be back soon. Highly recommended and a great host.

Booked at the last minute for a long weekend with our young family. The cottage was well equipped and clean and so quiet! A safe environment and interesting garden for the little ones to explore. Wildlife in the garden included deer, red squirrel and woodpecker....More

Great to hear you had an enjoyable stay and a great holiday! The woodpecker is a recent arrival in the garden this year. Don't know if it's nesting there - one certainly used to. I think the very young Roe Deer just pass through and...More

About the neighbourhood
Glencoldon Cottage is a short 10-15 min walk along the Speyside Way (Kinchurdy Road) to a variety of village amenities (2 shops, hotel, restaurant, steam train station, bus stops, etc.). The village itself offers a combination of tranquility, a little off the beaten track, and easy access to Cairngorms National Park activities and amenities, available on foot, bike, public transport and even steam train! The village lies six miles north east of Aviemore. For wider exploring, perhaps up through the world renowned whisky trail, over towards the Great Glen or exploring the Moray Firth and Black Isle, Boat-of-Garten is well placed just off the national rail and road network (A9, A95).
Getting around
PUBLIC TRANSPORT Boat of Garten is located in one of the areas of the Cairngorm National Park most easily accessible by public transport, with nearby connections for bus, rail and air travel. Shuttles to Aviemore By Bus - Service 34 goes to Aviemore, Grantown on Spey, Carrbridge and Inverness. By Bicycle - too many off-road cycle routes to mention, including in the National Park and on Speyside Way. Many village-to-village tracks. National Cycle Route 7 passes through the village.
