Villa -
3 Bedrooms , 3 Bathrooms , Sleeps 6
Diani Beach, Ukunda, Coast Province
The villa is located in it’s own dedicated secured compound within an acre of tropical lushness and a short ten minute walk to a quiet beach and Kongo mosque – one of the oldest on the East coast of Africa.
The villa, surrounded by sweet Frangipani, Flamboyants, citrus and Coconut palms, is built using local materials and local architectural inspiration, blended with African Rondhavel or “roundhouse” construction. The use of local “mazera” or slate in flooring, bathroom tiling and shelving provides a wonderful uncluttered sense of cohesion and function.
Makuti or palm thatch roofing and Casurina logs are used throughout with a soaring vaulted roof in the common area. The entire villa allows for maximum exposure to the coastal breeze while artfully balancing space and privacy.
In addition to the villa there is a large and airy Gazebo. In...

We spent a week at Lalapanzi and really enjoyed the spacious place. it is located in a quiet road but all the restaurants and the beach can be reached conveniently. We found the place ideal for families in need of some real rest, and enjoyed the pool, garden and house. Added bonus was the great chef and the friendly and...

Management response:

Ruth, thank you for your kind words and we hope to see you up in Kenya again - although I suspect your new beach project in Langabaan SA will keep you fully occupied - good luck!

We were a family with 2 kids 9 & 12 years old (for a few days also joined by a friend based in Nairobi). Kids spent most of the day in the swimming pool when we were chilling out. They also enjoyed the visits by the resident pets. Easy walking distance to the beach - a relatively quiet stretch with...

Management response:

Jeff, it was wonderful to share Lalapanzi with you and we do hope that you will be able to enjoy it again in the not too distant future!

We came from a safari trip (Amboseli, Tsavo etc.) and were so happy to find this well maintained house for some relaxing beach. I am not a big friend of beaches in Kenya, but the beach is not far to be reached from this house which is in the 'third row' somehow. The place is very good to fit for...

Management response:

And it was a pleasure to ensure that you had enough and good enough seafood to say, "stop!" Any time that you want more - karibuni!

About the neighbourhood
Lalapanzi is at the Kongo Mosque (North) end of the Diani Beach road. This is an end of the beach that is considered quieter and certainly sees a greater number of locals using the pristine sands and waters. For those who prefer to be surrounded by other holiday makers it may well not be the best end of the beach. For others who like a local vibe - well we think it does not get much better. Kongo Mosque - surrounded by a grove of ancient Baobabs is one of the oldest mosques on the African east coast and Hamisis who manages it would be delighted to show you around. Beyond this we have little known jewels like Asins restaurant that does some of the best Indian food around and others places that will provide you all you need locally.
Getting around
While one could spend an entire visit at the North End of the beach - there is so much else to see like Ali Barbours and Forty's, that taing advantages of the local 3 wheeler Tuk Tuks or taxis is easy and cheap. We have a number of people who we have used for a long time and can arrange an initial usage after which you can arrange your trips at your convenience. Oh! We also have a great Boda Boda guy who for a nominal fee will pick up and bring critical items like tonic for your G&T when you run out!
Car not needed
How to get there

Easy to get to. Air from Nairobi Wilson to Ukunda, or from Nairobi JKIA to Mombasa. With either option a pick-up and drop off at Lalapanzi can be arranged or taxi's operating at the airports can be used. If you choose to 'self arrange' we will provide you with the specific driving directions to ensure a simple arrival.
