Perfect for those colder nights, we will even supply you with your first basket of logs to burn free of charge (£4 for each additional basket) . Leading up a small flight of stairs you will find a sleeping area with a double bed and dressing table. Walking through this area you will then arrive at a smaller room with two single beds, making this ideal for a family. Back downstairs you will find the largest bedroom overlooking the quiet farm courtyard. It has a double bed, wardrobe and dressing table. The country style kitchen is extremely well equipped with everything you might need, and we even help to get you started by providing a small welcome pack of local produce, with some items being produced right here at Moor Farm. There are plenty of options for enjoying your meals, with your own dining room available inside, or an outdoor dining area and barbecue for Summer evenings. The cottage benefits from its own large, enclosed garden, where dogs or children can play. Why not help yourself to some of our garden games, lie back in a sun lounger or hook up the hammock between the trees? You can end your days with a relaxing soak in the whirlpool spa bath. Feel free to take as long as you like as there is a separate WC/cloakroom available for other guests to use. Guests are encouraged to take advantage of the extensive range of local guide books, maps and leaflets available to you when planning your days out. And for days when the Dartmoor weather does not play fair, then you will find plenty to keep you occupied with games, puzzles, books, DVDs and toys all stored away. You are welcome to explore the rest of the property beyond your garden gate and will find a mature garden with pleasant seating areas, fruit orchards, grazing sheep, roaming ducks and chickens, a large wildlife pond, a wildflower meadow with mown pathways and a small children's play area with a swing and trampoline. The village of Sticklepath is a short, flat walk away from the cottage, has a local shop and pub and is also home to the National Trust Finch Foundry. From the cottage, there are walks into the surrounding countryside and a small area of moorland opposite the cottage. Okehampton, the gateway to Dartmoor National Park, is just a short distance away, and as well as having a good selection of amenities, it has access onto Dartmoor where you can enjoy the dramatic landscape this National Park provides. There is also Okehampton Castle which is well worth a visit, or why not walk along the old railway to Meldon reservoir which has some stunning views. The location of the cottage makes it an ideal base from which to explore Cornwall and Devon. There are stunning beaches at Woolacombe and Sandymouth. Enjoy a day out at Hartland and visit the lighthouse, Hartland Quay and the historic fishing village at Clovelly. If gardens are of interest, you will find the RHS gardens at Rosemoor a delight and there are numerous National Trust properties in the surrounding area to enjoy. Other highlights in the local area include, The Miniature Pony Centre, Castle Drogo, Roadford Lake, Dingles Steam Museum, golf, horse riding or why not hire a bike and explore the Tarka Trail? Exeter, Torbay and Plymouth can also be easily reached. Shop and pub 750 yards, restaurant ¾ mile.More

About the neighbourhood
Apart from visiting wild and beautiful Dartmoor, there is so much else to see around the area. Most of the delightful villages around have an annual village fete; a real taste of English tradition. Just 3km away you can visit the annual Folk Festival in South Zeal (early August), or go to the new and exciting Chagstock Music Festival, held in July, 5km from the cottage.Devon has many historic houses open to the public. Our nearest is Castle Drogo, just 11km away; the last castle to be built in Britain, it is presently undergoing fascinating renovation projects. Surrounded by stunning woodland scenery, it is a great place for a day out. Famous beauty spots abound. Lydford Gorge (the deepest gorge in the Southwest) owned by the National Trust, is just 20km away, and a walk up to Higher...
Getting around
Given its rural location, the best way to cover distances is with your own car. There are, however, plenty of options to explore the surrounding villages and moorland on foot, straight from the front door. Information and maps can be found inside the cottage.
