About the neighbourhood
The area is full of quaint villages, valleys and the hamlet of Fendrement is right by the River Clai. Fishing permits are available weekly and also daily for fishing in the Nantes Brest Canal, the River and local lakes. There are king fishers along the Canal banks, frogs and river wild life is plentiful. There is a great Resistance Museum near Malestroit and also a wonderful Eco Museum with many items from local life and a fab collection of toys we can all remember. Josselin is an easy half hour drive away and has a fabulous Chateau which can be visited and also great bars and restaurants. La Gacilly is also a lovely local town just 25 mins drive away with local Artisans in many shops. There is a wonderful local market at Questembert which also has a very old roofed wooden building to protect the stalls from rain
How to get there
There are reliable ferries running to St Malo from Portsmouth ( 2 hours by car), Caen from Portsmouth ( 3 hours by car), Cherbourg from Portsmouth and other UK Ports (4 hours by car) Try Brittany Ferries and LD Lines St Malo/Portsmouth is the main night route often taken - book a cabin if you do that one or its a long night!! There are some fast craft, possibly to Cherbourg (check Poole to Cherbourg) Rennes is FlyBe and links well with Southampton ( 1 hour drive) Dinard Aiport is near St Malo ( 2 hours drive) and links swith Ryan Air via Stanstead - flights are cheaper if booked more than a month ahead. Passengers from Ireland can link to Roscoff Driving via Dover and the tunnel is also often a cheaper option but bear in mind time, over 7 hours and tolls on some routes taken tha...
