Reviewed 20 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

This villa is very basic and feels very dated and run down. Upon our arrival there was absolutely nothing in the way of a welcome pack as is usual with villas so no chance of even a tea or coffee. Not even a bottle of water in the fridge. A family arriving would have had a disaster with tired and hungry children. It was totally minimalistic in that there was no extra toilet paper, cleaning chemicals, bin liners etc.No bins for rubbish either. It was a bare villa indeed. We were given new sheets by a maid knocking the door which we fitted ourselves-there was no cleaner at all during our stay.

The road up is incredibly rough and not even fit for walking. The location is very poor and without a car you are stuffed as there are no amenities for several kilometres.

Only positives are good wi-fi and stunning view, but you could do far better for a more modern and higher standard villa. As someone said about a another similar villa on the development, it is a 5 star...

Management response:

I would like to thank this client for his review. All reviews are studied very carefully so that we improve our villas accordingly. Further to the above the following should be noted: 1. Nowhere in our advertisement we mention that we offer a welcome pack. Our standard practice is to provide such a pack if it is requested in advance...

Absolutely loved our stay at Villa Urania (Oyrania). Beautiful villa, great location overlooking the Gulf of Messenia. Clean, comfortable and well-serviced villa. Clean bed linen and towels delivered twice a week by lovely staff. Plenty of room for our family of five, but enough accommodation for at least one other person, maybe two. Stunning vistas and very private, ideal for a quiet, relaxing getaway. The only downside was the rather steep road leading up to the villa. It's a bit rough going, but very manageable if you drive cautiously. Absolutely worth the drive up when you get there! Would definitely consider returning at some stage in the future. Also, great communication from owner and his local representatives. We had a minor issue that was dealt with satisfactorily within an hour. Couldn't ask for better.

About the neighbourhood
Chrani is a quiet seaside hamlet with a long uncrowded beach and memorable views across the gulf to the mountainous Mani opposite.

Halfway down the inner side of the fertile, rolling Messinian peninsular, it is a good base from which to explore. Medieval Koroni, its vast fortifications still intact, lies some 12 kms to the south; whilst to the north a string of seaside villages – the largest being bustling (by comparison!) Petalidi 6 kms distant – means there is plenty of variety within a short bus or taxi ride. Up to 6 buses daily run between Koroni and Kalamata.

Chrani comprises two mini-markets, a pair of local cafés, a low-key garden bar and half a dozen good tavernas. Some offer free Wi-FI. It has a lovely shingle/sand beach which stretches for half a mile and has three beach-bars t...
