There are 2 double bedrooms, both have original French beds and their own W.C. and wash basin en-suite. A hairdryer, alarm clock radio chest of drawers and hanging space. Linen and towels are provided The lounge/diner is cosy and has the benefit of a pot bellied wood burner, dining table, sofa, easy chairs and English T.V., radio and DVD player, loads of books. Side lights add to the ambiance in the evenings The quaint, bright, kitchen with yellow gingham curtains at the windows has gas hob, electric oven, fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster and an array of pots'n'pans The downstairs shower room has W.C. wash basin, tiled shower and washing machine. There is a private garden, patio area, BBQ , fire pit and adequate safe parking for 2 vehicles. Harold's Barn is named after an American Soldier called Harold who was killed here 10 days after D Day. He was awarded the Purple Heart for bravery and is buried at the American Cememtary at Colleville. There is a plaque dedicated to him on the wall outside our cottage. We have dedicated the barn to his memory and all the men who died during WW11. The absence of air pollution is ideal for star gazers but if you prefer somthing closer to earth look no further than the hedgerows for the glow worms to do their stuff.More

On arrival we should have known what to expect from the broken and rusty outdoor furniture, I would have beem to embarrsed to let friends and family sit on them let alone paying guests. It was clear on entering, the property hadn't been cleaned properly....More

About the neighbourhood
Our Village is St Clair sur Elle and has grown since the war into a large village with everything you need. It takes 25minutes to walk there. Through the village and down a single cart track is a walk that takes you to the 'fountain'. Go down the wooden steps and find the little shrine where the waters are supposed to have healing powers for eye problems. Whether you have occular trouble or not it is a lovely walk. There are a couple of monuments dedicated to the fallen and wounded soldiers around St Clair. Take time to read the stories on the plaques at the monument just north of the village en route to St Margarite. Then if you want a real traditional French workers lunch carry on to the Vallee bar and have a Plat du Jour, 3 courses including wine and cider for €11.00. And that is j...
