This spacious and comfortable house was built for the Exciseman of the former Lochindaal Distillery in the late 1800's and retains many charming period features such as 18 foot ceilings, cornicing, oak staircase, open fire and operating shutters. The south facing views over Lochindaal towards The Oa and Ireland mean that the rooms are light and sunny. The house offers 3 King bedrooms on the upper floor, one of which can be made up as a twin. The kitchen is well equipped with quality circulon pans and denby crockery, with a washing machine/drier in the back hall. Both shower rooms are modern and tiled, with toilet and wash hand basin with electric showers, one room upstairs, one downstairs. The two king bedrooms face the sea, whilst the third king bedroom at the rear of the house overlooks fields to the west, and can be made up as a twin, as the beds are zip and link. A folding bed and cot are also available. A bench and folding outdoor chairs are available for use in the grassed garden to the front, with fuel shed to the rear in the large open garden. More

Stunning views, lovely village (and island). House very roomy and light, can't really fault it. Another couple of pint glasses might be nice, but otherwise very well kitted out. Would go back.

About the neighbourhood
Port Charlotte is a pretty conservation village set on the edge of Lochindaal, a sealoch with safe swimming and beaches. The village benefits from a range of amenities including hotels serving food and drink, a pier and beaches, a shop and post office and the museum of Islay life, and Islay natural history trust, and Port Mor campsite and play park with cafe. All amenities are within easy walking distance. The beautiful Island offers many opportunities to enjoy the outdoors - walking, cycling, kayaking, beaches... in addition to spectacular wildlife and 8+ distilleries. It is also possible to visit Jura at all times of year, and Colonsay during summer months, depending on ferry schedules.
Getting around
We recommend access to a car, but there is a public transport system and there are a range of taxi services. Cycling is a popular option as the land is generally gently rolling.
