Forest Row, East Sussex, England
Savannah Yurt is located within a magical corner of an ancient woodland. You will be far away from the constant hum of the city and instead you may hear owls and buzzards or squirrels cracking open nuts. Hear the woodpecker's tap tap tapping in the distance as you begin to stir in the dappled light of dawn. Lucky visitors may see the deer as they wander, unhindered, through the bluebells and wild orchids. Savannah Yurt is decorated in an 'out of Africa' theme with interesting carvings and animal prints and skins.

Stayed with Lisa and Charles at their wonderful little gem hidden away in East Sussex in a stunning log cabin. The woodland setting is tranquil and beautifully laid out, with a real eye on sustainable landscaping and practical nature awareness. Soooooo wonderful here, owners and host Charles and Lisa are wonderful and generous hosts and the yurt was just magical - didn't think I would like any kind of camping even glamping, but I had a great night's sleep on warm comfy futon in cosy Savannah yurt - same for hubby and kids, 11 and 9, who loved running wild...

Management response:

Mr & Mrs Moss and Tara and Remy. It was lovely having you to stay and it seems that you have been converted to our way of thinking on the whole glamping experience. Really glad you enjoyed your time and we look forward to welcoming you back again very soon! Charles and Lisa x

Wonderful experience, wonderful people, If I could do it again I will. The yurt is some comfortable, so nice to sleep under the warm blanket and hear the nightlife around. Even with my 2-years-old is was fine.

Management response:

Thank you Severine! Please do come and see us a again! Charles & Lisa x

About the neighbourhood
Once part of John of Gaunt’s hunting park, originally the woodland was part of Anderida Forest and would have consisted of mainly giant oak with hazel undergrowth which flourished over the damp clays and loams of the valley regions. Much of the oak has now been replaced by ash which exists today with a few oaks and a coppiced hazel understory.

One of the earliest historians of the Weald, William Lambarde describes the area in his 1576 ‘Perambulation’ as “in times past nothing but a desart and waste wildernesse, not planted with towns or peopled with men, but stored with herdes of deere and droves of hogges only”.
