Wirksworth, Derbyshire, England
You enter Hog Cottage through a stable front door into a snug area with a desk and easy chairs which offers a perfect place for chilling out on summer evenings. From the sung a door leads to a lovely cottage style sitting room with a cosy gas living flame fire and comfy sofa and two chairs.

At the other end of the snug there is a archway through to a newly appointed luxury Kitchen which leads into a stunning Dining Room with a grand dining table which looks magnificent against the stone walls, high ceiling and exposed beams. We had an excellent time at Hog Cottage and Wirksworth itself is lovely. Lovely places to eat and drink like Mercia, Le Mistral and Featherstar. My only caveat is that you need to be comfortable with hills -walking up them, or at least parking on...More

About the neighbourhood
Wirksworth is one of the oldest towns of this area and still one of those with greatest character. Centred around its marketplace, where markets have been held since Edward I granted the right in 1306, it has many fine old buildings with picturesque alleys and craftsmen's yards.

The reason for the splendour of many of the buildings is Wirksworth's historical trade - it was the southern centre of the Derbyshire lead industry and the Soke and Wapentake of Wirksworth, as it was called, was one of the most productive mining areas.
