Holiday Rental House
The Bay is a comfortable, family holiday home situated on the sea front in Portnahaven - there are fabulous views directly on to the sea below. The cottage overlooks a sheltered bay with a safe, sandy beach - ideal for playing, swimming, and hunting for crabs. The bay is also home to many seals, which bask on the rocks below the cottage. Portnahaven village has a family friendly pub/restaurant serving local produce. There is a small shop selling basic provisions and you can buy crabs and lobster from the fishing boat at the pier. There is a fantastic, relaxed atmosphere, and children can enjoy far greater unsupervised freedom than the mainland. The Bay is a traditional, two-bedroom fisherman's cottage and sleeps 4/5 people. Children are very welcome - let us know if you need a travel cot/highchair when booking. Well behaved pets are also welcome. Interaction with guests
The Bay is looked after by Jean who lives next door - she is usually there to greet you on arrival if you let us know which ferry you are arriving on. If she can't be there, then the doors will be left open for you. Jean can give you as much information as you wish about the island during your stay, but will not intrude at all upon your holiday if you prefer to do your own thing!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

About the neighbourhood
Islay has many breathtakingly beautiful beaches and walks and it's easy to spend your whole holiday enjoying these. Of course, Islay is also world famous for its whisky distilleries, and holds an annual whisky festival visited by people from all round the world. Ileachs (people from Islay) are a friendly bunch who will make you welcome and will wave at you as you drive by! Islay is home to a wide variety of wildlife and rare birds. There are a large number of seals right below The Bay, and you might also spot dolphins, basking sharks, sea eagles and choughs during your stay. In winter, Islay is visited by thousands of barnacle geese, a spectacular sight.
Getting around
The easiest way to get around Islay is by car, as many of the beaches are quite remote. However, if you're not driving, then there is also a very regular bus service on the island operated by Mundells - see Argyll & Bute's website for timetables. The island is popular for cycling and walking too, and there are also several taxi companies if you have a night out in another village.
