Oh where to begin....if you ever decide to take your family to Ireland, maybe in celebration of your 70th birthday....well book Springfield Castle for a week and let the
Sykes family do the rest ! The manor house is just as I imagined only better with great antique funky furnishings...lovely bedrooms....a wonderful kitchen and dining room...and a living room with the fireplace always burning...all the wood provided.
We chose to have a few meals prepared for us as well as two breakfasts and they were amazing...a real treat not having to cook everyday.
On Thanksgiving night...my birthday celebration dinner....Jonathan , Betty and Karen hosted us for cocktails in their newly renovated Tower to the Castle which will be used in the future for social gatherings ...awesome !!...thank you... And after dinner we were treated to a 3 piece musical group in the living room which was arranged by our hosts and it gave me a chance to share some of the rich Irish music that I love with my family...thanks again !
We did take some day side trips and the small bus company that the folks recommended could not have been better....it gave us a chance to really enjoy the nearby Dingle penisula.
Many in our party enjoyed walking the extensive grounds with all the historical significance attached to the property.
I have had the good fortune to travel to Ireland ...10 times in my life... and I have stayed in many different hotels castles and B&B's....nothing has ever compared to my stay with the Sykes family in their wonderful countryside retreat.
My one hope is to go back and experience it all over again!!
Thank you so very much...Jonathan, Betty, Karen and Dan...your hospitality and graciousness to me and my family was simply the best as well as your grand Castle !!
All the best, Jim and family

Hard to overstate the amount of fun you can have with 22 best friends and family members, an amazing setting (the castle), 2 kegs of Guinness in the pub and perfect Irish summer weather. Every single aspect of our trip worked 100% and Springfield Castle was just a magic place for us. The old part of the building is appropriately musty and grand, the Tower is newly updated and modern, their cuisine (breakfast, lunch and dinners) was incredible, the 2 game rooms kept the younger crowd entertained (pool, pingpong, foosball), the grounds were lush and quiet and picturesque. 2 deer herds onsite - we had their local venison for dinner and even the vegetarians raved. Dan (chef), Karen, Jonathan and Betty were wonderful hosts. And where else can you get a personal guided tour by the Lord of the manor, himself in bathing suit and flipflops? Have Dan cook his 3-day marinated lamb on the asado grill and be sure to order his seafood pie. The 2 best meals of the week. I could go on forever. It's a special place our group will always remember.

This is my 3rd time booking a week long retreat at Springfield Castle. It is the perfect balance of elegance and homey comfort. All of my clients on this most recent retreat exclaimed their full delight of the surroundings, the amenities, the gracious thoughtful touches of flowers in the rooms, our wonderful grounds tour with Jonathan and Betty's knowledge of the flora. Some of my participants enjoyed roaming the woods, saying hello to the resident domesticated deer while others were inspired to write from the comfort of their rooms or common spaces. They exclaimed how rejuvenated and inspired they felt after their week at Springfield castle. They ALL had high praise. Springfield castle will always be my chosen setting for my Ireland retreats. Thank you again Sykes family!!!

Was lucky enough to be invited to share in friends wedding at Springfield Castle, stayed for a week in late July 2016. Absolutely magical place. Beautiful grounds, very interesting castle with incredible charm. Modern amenities as well as medieval feel to the accommodations. Awesome owners who are in the process of renovating the oldest tower on the property, they were able to create an amazing venue for my friend's wedding in the old castle tower house. Would highly recommend for groups and special events.

Set in wonderful isolation, Springfield Castle has a wonderful feel to it. Rooms are furnished with very appropriate furniture, and one gets the impression that it is actively used by the owners when not rented. Big open fires abound, and even though we were there just after Christmas, the building never felt cold or damp.
There are several bedrooms ranging from the beautiful double with en-suite bathroom, to a somewhat basic room on the way to the games room. We were a group of 14 so we used them all. So make sure to grab the best!
The dining room is huge, and the kitchen is well appointed and cosy.
We rented on a self-catering basis.
In addition to a large living room, there is a library - both with large open fires.
We thoroughly enjoyed our three day stay, and have no hesitation in recommending it.

We stayed in Springfield castle for New years with group of friends. We don't all get together that often so it was so great that the castle can accommodate a large group and so spaciously. From the moment we arrived, we were overwhelmed with the beauty and shear size of the castle along with the east tower.
We were greeted by the owners Jonathan and Betty who were very welcoming. They had the fires going and the place all cosy for us when we arrived. Jonathan also gave us a little tour of the tower, which they are renovating at the moment. I can only imagine that will be another beautiful addition to the castle.
I also have to mention the beds were such luxury and the pillows and quilts were unbelievably comfortable. I got to make use of the sauna, which again was such a luxury.

No matter what beautiful and incredible words I use, none of those words would be descriptive and close enough to describe the castle as well as Jonathan and Betty. Even though the photos of the castle online are beautiful, once you see the castle in person, you realize that those beautiful photos could only capture as small percentage of her glory. From the moment your vehicle enters the gates, you are captivated and as you continue down the tree lined drive, you feel yourself transported to a story book. As the castle begins to come into view, you see a big sign with your names lovingly scripted, to welcome you, which immediately warms your heart. You are incapable of closing your jaw. The front door opens and you become the monarch of this beautiful, romantic and welcoming castle that is so well taken care of and you literally can feel the love of the castle radiating from its walls as if all of the prior lives that graced the floors through the century, opened the door and welcomed you with a warm hug. The soul can only properly describe what you will be privileged to experience. For that one week, Jonathan and Betty gave me a childhood dream come true that even Disney World can't deliver. For one week, I was the Princess in this glorious castle...every girl's dream. Such perfect care and love went into every inch of the castle just for those who are staying there and you can see all of the sincere efforts everywhere. Jonathan and Betty are just as beautiful as their castle. They gave us a warm greeting and checked on us every day. I can't even begin to tell you of all the ways they were of help to us. I fell in love with both of them before I even got to the castle. If you looked at the castle online, let me assure you that you should make the reservation as it would be an experience of a lifetime!

We took four families and rented the entire castle. This is not some cheesy remodeled castle; it is an authentic, well restored and beautiful structure with all sorts of features we never expected to be so nice: two fully remodeled kitchens, a pub, a game room, updated rooms and bathrooms and stunning grounds. Betty and Jonathan were the perfect hosts and made sure everything was just right. They arranged a chef (Imelda) to cook breakfasts and dinners for us who even packed us a couple of lunches to go. They stocked the castle with beer and wine before our arrival and took us on a tour of the grounds explain the deep history and meanings behind some of the castle. Jonathan also convinced a local restaurant to open up on a Monday night to feed us.
The meals themselves made the trip worthwhile; Imelda and her staff prepared outstanding fare and were as pleasant as could be; always cheerful and accommodating including to a couple vegetarians we had with us. The food and service were exquisite. Having 23 of us seated at the same table for our dinners was a highlight.
We used the castle as a base and made daily trips out with a tour guide (Butler's Bus Company with a fantastic driver - Michael Brady). The location is centrally located making it ideal to see all of Southern and Central Ireland; about an hour or so from Shannon (Shannon airport is so much better than Dublin - small and in/out in minutes even flying internationally). My only comment on this aspect is to talk with Jonathan before renting a huge bus since our bus barely made it through the gate and archway; fortunately, there are several other entrances onto the property so just make sure to get directions if you go the big bus route. Drumcollagher is the closest town with several pubs but I wouldn't recommend walking on the roads even though it is only a couple kilometers. These are country roads with no shoulders.
Final comment is on cost: I estimate between the castle rental and the food cost, it was about half of what we would have spent at hotels and restaurants.
I wouldn't be surprised if we are back for some weddings especially since they are renovating the final castle keep - it will be a stunning venue.
We looked at a lot of options on lodging - this one was a perfect "10."

As a group of 4 families with our young adult children we had the castle to ourselves. Jonathan and Betty made us feel right at home. The castle and grounds were beautiful and so fun to explore. The rooms were very nicely appointed and the beds were very comfy. Perfection after a long day of touring. We all enjoyed the amenities of the long room for gathering to play games, the pub with the juke box for dancing and more games and the bonfire for even more games. The castle is located fairly centrally for our daily 2 hour excursions. Coming home each day to dinners prepared by Imelda and her mother, Joan was definitely a highlight as was waking each day to wonderful Irish breakfasts. We all felt so pampered. Of all of the meals we had throughout our trip, the ones prepared for us at the castle were by far the best. I can't say enough about how kind and accommodating these ladies were. As others have stated, our stay at Springfield Castle exceeded our expectations. This is the way to go when travelling with a group who wish to tour this beautiful country.

The Castle is set on a beautiful 200 acre wooded estate which is yours to roam. There are deer on the farm and your host Jonathan will take you for a guided tour around the property. In the woods are areas set out for picnics and BBQ's . There is also a tennis court on the property and a soccer pitch and playground for children, Croquet can be set up on the lawn for those who are interested. The villages of Dromcollogher and Broadford are close by and have shops and plenty of pubs. The Mullaghareirk mountains above Broadford have lots of walking trails and in the Ballyhoura mountains there are also mountain bike trails for the more adventurous.
A hire car is recommended however there are local bus companies that can be rented to take your group around. This is a great way for everyone to travel together and enjoy the sights with no one have to take the responsibility of driving
