About the neighbourhood
Known as 'The Jewel of The Highlands' the National Trust village of Plockton is among the most scenic areas of Scotland, its lochside location sheltered by mountain ranges and its waters warmed by the Gulf Stream. It makes an ideal base for exploring beautiful Wester Ross, Lochalsh and the Isle of Skye, which is just seven miles away and easily accessible by toll-free bridge. Facilities in nearby Kyle of Lochalsh include a sports centre with swimming pool and Jacuzzi while popular attractions such as Eilean Donan Castle are just ten miles from Plockton.
Getting around
While there are trains and taxis available from the village of Plockton in order to be able to appreciate the widespread natural beauty of Wester Ross, Lochalsh and the nearby Isle of Skye having use of a car would be the recommended method of getting around during your holiday. We have had guests, however, who have found sufficient local attractions nearby Plockton to have been able to walk or cycle to all of those without using their car at all.

You can therefore choose to arrive by either train, aircraft, boat or car. Most visitors will choose to drive, since that provides greater opportunities for sightseeing in this beautiful part of the Highlands, the most common route being the scenic A82 and A87 taking you past Loch Lomond, Glencoe and Eilean Donan Castle.
