Stayed at the Base for few days. The view was stunning. Surrounded by mountains and lots of short walks. The Base was perfectly located, very clean, organised and short walk to the local pubs and shops.

About the neighbourhood
thebase is located 1,000 feet above sea level, surrounded by Lake District fells and waterfalls. We provide self-catering bunkhouse accommodation, ideal for groups wanting to enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, climbing, mountain biking, and nature watching.
The remote but accessible building is at Greenside, above Glenridding, in an area with a rich industrial heritage as well as natural beauty. Bridleways and footpaths lead onto the fells close by, including the Helvellyn ridge. Ullswater Lake is just two miles away and both Penrith and Ambleside are within a 45 minute drive.
Getting around
The nearest train station is Penrith. There are buses that run between Penrith and Glenridding. There is also a local taxi service that will run you to the base from the station for £40 - try Eden Taxis- we can supply phone numbers on request. Once you are at the base you can walk to Glenridding village in 30 min, the pub in 20 min and the YHA is a few minutes walk with a cafe, restaurant and bar. The mountains and footpaths are on your doorstep. Ulswater Lake and all the watersport activities are approximately 30 minutes walk. So it would be possible to stay without a car.
