Holiday Rental House
Standing alone remote yet close to Tarbert on the rugged and beautiful coastline of the bays of Harris. The Red House (or Tigh Dearg), recently renovated from a traditional stone cottage and now a perfect getaway for two. The only access is by a 100 metre stony pathway. Spectacular views across the sea to North Harris and the Isles of Scalpay and Scotsay. Closer by, watch the local seal population as they bask on the rocks below the house. The cottage is ideally located for walkers and cyclists, surrounded by scenery and central to Harris, as well as the whole of the Western Isles. The isolated situation together with the ambiance, we have created, with many hand crafted fixtures and fittings and artistic touches, make it ideal for a romantic break or honeymoon.A warm welcome awaits you he...Standing alone remote yet close to Tarbert on the rugged and beautiful coastline of the bays of Harris. A basket of complimentary supplies including local fresh provisions and something suitably sparkling, in a fully equipped kitchen/dining area. The open plan sitting room features a multifuel stove to lend a little atmosphere as the evening draws in. If the Hebridean weather encourages you to stay in we have provided WiFi, radio, TV and DVD player, a collection of DVDs and a reclining sofa! We have supplied a selection of local interest books and maps. In the slate lined, shower, wet room, we have merged mod.cons with traditional style. You will find fluffy towels on the heated towel rail and underfloor heating. What once was attic space is now a mezzanine floor, surrounded by handcrafted iron railings. There is a comfortable sitting area with beautiful views from the roof windows, and a king sized bed with quality linen. For days out or just roaming the hills we have provided a picnic basket for your use. There is also a rechargeable torch for any night forays, perhaps to the pub, about 20 minutes walk away. More

The Red House is exactly as advertised. Although close to Tarbet, you cannot hear any noise during the night or day. Your closest neighbors are sheep and two horses. In fact we did not meet any cars on the local road in the entire week...More

About the neighbourhood
Explore the wonderful array of natural beauty - wild flowers on the machair, mountains and hills to walk, or walkways for the less adventurous . There are dunes, birdwatching, fishing for brown trout and salmon, geology, the night sky in winter and with the right conditions you can see the northern lights. The famous Atlantic beaches are great for surfing and wind surfing while the eastern coast is perfect for kayaking and sailing. Places of interest to visit include Rodel church, the Temple in Northton, the Scalpay lighthouse. Enjoy a beautifully situated 9-hole golf course on the very edge of the Atlantic. Take a day trip to St. Kilda, the Shiants or another of the remote and uninhabited Hebridean Islands
How to get there
By Air Frequent flights everyday to Stornoway airport from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness. Flybe Flights to Stornoway, Benbecula and Barra. By Sea Perhaps a more satisfying way to travel here, take a car ferry from: Uig, Isle of Skye, to Tarbert, Harris Ullapool to Stornoway, Lewis Berneray to Leverburgh, Harris The ferry operator is Caledonian MacBrayne
