Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

The cottage is very well equipped and fitted to a very high standard. It has lovely views (aided by what is almost a wall of windows) and is laid out in a cozy but also airy open plan living area and traditional bedroom design. The beds were very comfortable and the place was spotlessly clean. The cottage is situated on a private driveway and although there are other houses and cottages nearby, it is not overlooked. Therefore it is a great balance of peace without being too isolated. Good shopping is only a short drive away in either Clifden or Letterfrack and the hills and beaches are close at hand and easy to access. I would thoroughly recommend Red Deer Cottage and the area in general. Thanks for a great holiday, Liz.

We stayed in the Red Deer Cottage with 3 small children and 5 adults and the house was comfortable for all of us. The area is lovely if you like a quiet holiday close to some of the main tourist attractions in Ireland. At the end we had a bit trouble with the owner as guest are supposed to clean the house for the next guests and there is no professional clean in between (what we assumed). Therefore it's actually not as clean (under the sofa and in the shelfs) - we found tissues and other belongings from previous guests... Maybe we were a bit sensitive about it as we have 2 toddlers.. However if you don't mind that it's a great place in a great area.

I am sorry you had issues with my cleanliness but I expect my visitors to leave the house only as found.I like to see that the furniture is left back in its place and a general clean up of kitchen and food waste to be cleaned up also. I trust in people on their departure that they inform me if anything gets broken or damaged. I am glad you enjoyed your stay and I will see to tissues being left around the house and dirt under the sofa for my next visitors. Many Thanks. liz

Red Deer Cottage provides superbly appointed accommodation in a convenient location, close to Letterfrack village and Clifden for shopping and sightseeing. There are wonderful walks from the doorstep and the national park is nearby. The cottage itself has every modern convenience and is a home away from home. The owner, Liz, was extremely welcoming and helped us during our stay. If thinking about a stay in glorious Connemara, go not further than Red Deer Cottage.

Stayed at this lovely property for a week at the beginning of May. It was wonderful - the cottage was warm and clean with a lovely atmosphere. The cuckoo sang all day, every day and the cows with their calves in the adjacent field were a delight! Go raibh maith agat Liz - Diolch yn fawr.

Just 15-20 minutes' drive from lovely Clifden and close to Letterfrack, with easy road access to Cleggan, Omey Island, and the Renvyle Peninsula, this was a brilliant location for our first visit to Connemara. Ideal size for a family group - nice upstairs lounge, double room and en suite gives self contained feel. Bathrooms plentiful, kitchen BIG and well equipped, main sitting room with a turf (peat) room heater - nice feature for September evenings. A modern property imaginatively designed and furnished with flare. You pay extra for electricity and central heating off season would get expensive. Location very quiet, but only minutes from the main road. Limited from-the-door walking but unlimited possibilities within a short car drive. Jaw-droppingly amazing scenery in all directions, wonderful wild flowers even in September, varied bird life, dark skies... and when we were there, the Clifden Arts Festival. What's not to like!

We just returned from a three week vacation in Ireland and the whole family, all nine of us, agreed that Connemara and the Red Deer Cottage was our favorite stop! It is a perfect base for exploring Connemara and just enjoying the beautiful home and surrounds. Some of the highlights: the cottage is 5 minutes from the Connemara Nat'l Park- we took an afternoon and hiked Diamond Mountain, absolutely gorgeous and quite a feat to not get blown off! Kylemore Abbey is 10 minutes away it's breathtaking and definitely worth an afternoon wandering through, 15-20 minutes from Clifden where we rented electric bikes from "All Things Connemara" and biked the beautiful Sky Road. There are some great pubs in Letterfrack but our favorite was Paddy Coynes in Tully Cross, just 4 km away. They were so nice and the food was way above pub grub at pub prices! Our teenagers loved the "Killary Sheep Farm" and the sheepdog demonstrations, take that day and do a Killary Fjord boatride and then go up the Delpi Pass, it is some of the prettiest views in all Ireland(it even beats the Dunloe Gap in my opinion) We spent five wonderful days and only wish we had had more time. Now on to the cottage itself, I really cannot find one fault with our wonderful accommodations. The other reviews pretty well cover it, very comfy beds, spacious high end living spaces, and well equipped kitchen! We cooked in a couple nights and once you got yourself acquainted with everything it was an easy kitchen to cook in. American people take note: all the appliances are VERY different, we learned quickly to ask. Liz, the owner, was very helpful explaining how to run everything, and while I'm on the subject let me just stop here and say she was one of the sweetest most helpful people we met on our entire trip! That's saying a lot for Ireland, the people here are so nice it's amazing! She stopped by our first day to check in on us, and gave us wonderful advice on where to eat and what to see. My father had broken his glasses and Liz offered to take them with her to get them fixed for us, she even lent him her mother's reading glasses till she could get his back! Cannot believe how above and beyond she was! Also if she is playing anywhere nearby during your stay, don't miss it! Liz and her sister are renowned fiddle players and we went and saw her play in Clifden, one of our favorite nights!! Whenever you rent something you always hope it's going to be as good as the pictures and I can honestly say this place far exceeded my expectations in every regard! I hope to return to Ireland someday and if I do I will definitely be back to Letterfrack and the Red Deer cottage!

Red Deer Cottage was everything we hoped it would be and more. Our initial reaction was that the pictures don't do it justice. We loved everything from the peaceful location to the well equipped kitchen, the sky tv in the sitting room, the cosy beds and our 6 year old especially loved 'her' den. Everything was of a very high standard. Even though we didn't meet Liz, she was always on the end of the phone if we needed her. We would definitely return to Red Deer Cottage and would have no hesitation recommending it to our friends and relatives.

Marvellous view from the house over a lake. Private but not secluded. Modern, but with a homey feel, and with many personal touches such as the best of Irish pottery and lovely paintings. Friendly and helpful owner who clearly loves and cherishes her property as we did during our visit.

We spent two wonderful weeks in Red Deer Cottage in May of 2013. The location of the cottage was perfect and the level of furnishings and attention to detail was very high. You can walk out the front door, walk to the road, turn right and walk for miles with great views of The Bens and the sea. Letterfrack Village has a well-stocked market and a very good bar/restaurant. Clifden is a 20 minute drive and has several large markets and many choices for shopping and meals. Liz and her entire family did everything they could to make our stay comfortable and we are returning for a second visit in May of 2014.

We recently stayed at Red Deer Cottage in august with our two children (aged 6 and 2) and cannot recommend it highly enough. It feels more like a luxurious home than a holiday cottage and is probably the best equipped place we've ever stayed at. The cottage was so comfortable and spacious with very chic, contemporary decor. It was lovely to have little luxuries like WiFi and Sky Plus especially with small children! Liz, the owner of the cottage, was charming and incredibly helpful and we were made to feel so welcome. The cottage is in the perfect location for exploring Connemara with Kylemore abbey just down the road as well as Connemara National Park. The lovely town of Clifden is only a short drive away. The beaches nearby at Renvyle are spectacular if you are lucky enough to get fine weather! I only wish we had longer there to explore more of beautiful Connemara.

About the neighbourhood
This delightful new cottage is cheerful and bright - just like its owner who, along with her sister, is a well-known traditional Irish fiddle player. Children are warmly welcome here. A baby's cot is available on request. The front garden is a large and safe area for kids to play in. This is a strictly non-smoking property. Baunoges Cottage is situated in a foodie's paradise with the award winning Renvyle House Hotel a mere 10 minutes away by car. If you feel like walking, the Rosleague Manor Hotel is only a five minute trek from the cottage. The village of Letterfrack is 1.5 miles from the cottage and has shops, pubs, and restaurants. The Avoca Handcrafts shop is half a mile from the cottage with a great variety of clothes, handcrafts, books, cds and kitchenware. Kylemore Abbey is less...
