Talahogan--experience Sedona's beauty, nature and peace...

Talahogan--experience Sedona's beauty, nature and peace...
...amidst sweeping vistas in all directions. To the north, Boynton Canyon & Mogollon Rim...
...as well as Capitol Butte and Chimney Rock
To the west, Cockscomb Butte, Doe Mesa, Bear Mtn and even Jerome on distant Mingus Mtn
To the east, unobstructed vistas of Sugar Loaf, the Mittens and Schnebly Hill
And to the south, a panorama of Sedona's most famous rocks--Courthouse, Bell & Cathedral
The red rock vistas are magnificent at any time of year--after a summer monsoon storm...
...or winter snowfall
...and often with a constantly changing tableau of light and shadows throughout the day
The spacious deck looks out on to the full expanse of Sedona's eastern & southern horizons
...and in the glow of a setting sun offers stunning views of Cathedral and Bell rocks
From the bedroom terrace, peaceful panoramic vistas to the west and north
The large patio, shaded by juniper trees, has 360 degree views...
...to enjoy from both the eating area...
...and the 5-seat hot tub!
The 2 1/2 acres are extensively landscaped, primarily with native plants...
..with lots of color, high-desert fragrance--and bees!--from February on into November
The sound of running water in back and front ponds adds to the peacefulness of the garden
A front view of Talahogan in its summer dress...
...and its winter one
The great room has an open feel that connects and harmonizes with the outside...
Also a peaceful energy, thanks in part to soft earth tones and natural alder paneling
Though completely remodeled, it still retains the old fireplace & rustic charm of the old cabin
From the dining area are views of Red Rock Country virtually in all directions
The den offers a separate TV room with futon sofa, 46' smart TV...
...large desk and inviting sitting area...
...with magnificent views for your morning coffee or evening drinks
Boynton Canyon BR: A comfortable queen-sized bed, swivel easy chair...
...a spacious, custom alder desk...
...and a sweeping vista of the Wilderness Area to greet you in the morning!
Cockscomb BR: A comfortable queen-sized bed, large walk-in closet...
...and a magestic view of Cockscomb Butte to gaze out onto!
Sugar Loaf BR: King-sized bed, small frig, TV...
...separate bath with shower...
...covered deck and expansive views on to Sugar Loaf and Sedona's eastern horizon
The main bath has spacious counters and vanity...
...and a bath/shower with great views in BOTH directions
Given its openness, natural habitat and water, wildlife abounds at Talahogan...like this mule deer
Javelina herds come regularly to drink and graze...
...and steal seed from the birdfeeder!
Even an occasional bobcat strolls through...
...and now and then a coyote, though you'll hear 'em a LOT more than see 'em!
But you'll see lots of cottontails either at the pond or grazing on the Mexican primrose
Given the inviting habitat, you'll also see LOTs of wild birds, like this yellow-hooded oriole...
...and female ladder-back woodpecker
A western cardinal family makes its home on the property. Here the male...
...and his mate, which loves to bathe in the little creek
The bird feeder, of course, attracts them all, like these house finches...
...but it's the gamble quail who rule the roost!
The beauty, nature and peace of Talahogan is waiting for you...

Sedona, Arizona
Talahogan is a Navajo word for 'home on hill.' For the Navajo, the hogan is a sacred dwelling--a protection and refuge—grounded on a harmony with life and nature. Such is the spirit of Talahogan, a country home located on 2.5 acres on a tranquil hilltop miles away from the bustle of Sedona’s commercial and tourist centers. From this hilltop perch, you enjoy the most sweeping panorama of Red Rock Country--a creation of awesome natural beauty sacred to Native Americans--in a peaceful country setting where wildlife still abounds. Originally a hunting cabin built 80-90 years ago, the house has been renovated and expanded over the years to a stunning southwestern home without losing the unpretentious warmth of Sedona's rural past and the spirit of the hogan.

The views were off the charts and the house is set-up perfectly to take in the panoramic scenery with the large clear windows. Ron, the owner, was a joy to meet with lots of knowledge of the area. Sitting in the hot tub at night...More

We are three life long friends celebrating our 70th birthdays and chose Sedona for the occasion. Staying at Talahogan made the trip. We loved the views, the quiet, the living with the red rock beauty this home provides. Our stay was awesome!

About the neighbourhood
Talahogan sits on one of the most remarkable view properties in all Sedona. From its hilltop perch on Sedona's western fringe, there are unobstructed panoramic views of Red Rock Country in virtually all directions--from Cathedral, Castle, Bell and Courthouse rocks in the southeast to Mitten Ridge and Schnebly hill in the east. To the north, are magnificent views of Capitol Butte, the Wilderness Area and Boynton Canyon, wrapping around to Doe Mesa and Cockscomb Butte, the westernmost bastions of Red Rock Country. The beauty of these red rock vistas varies from season to season and throughout the day as the sun and clouds move across the sky in an ever-changing tableau of light, shadows and color...sometimes, like after monsoon rains, graced by a magnificent rainbow.
