Inspired by the seashell and sea snail found on the north west pacific beaches of Costa Rica, Casa Nusantara rises from the hillside, an upper protective shell in white, with a wide gaping opening towards the green exterior environment, blue ocean and sunny skies. A sheltered core is buried in the hillside while exposing the terrace as a protected viewing area where a gently caressing breeze allows people to relax, slow down and interact with the environment from a vantage viewpoint. This natural design philosophy extends to within the home, bone white concrete acts as a base palette providing relief in the ceiling to floor, glass windows and walls, bringing in light, blue skies and green forest, creating a sense of wide open space while providing views of the outside environment with creature comforts. Gorgeous Guanacaste wood with incredible grain and detail from a 300-year-old tree cloaks the island, while modern grey quartz covers the kitchen counter tops and backsplash. Right outside the living space, floor to ceiling glass panels open up to a teak walkway crafted from handpicked wood with wide railings allowing you set your beverage of choice down, while taking in gorgeous sunrises to the left and flaming sunsets to your right in the west. This walkway connects the sheltered living space to an outdoor teak ceilinged covered terrace with blue ocean, green forest and turquoise pool views, encouraging outdoor living and dining - anytime! Adjacent to the covered terrace is the yoga deck and sunbathing space! Back in the living area, carefully curated wood from the Guanacaste tree has been used to craft the staircase, leading down to the first floor. Taking these stairs, you find yourself flanked on the left by a floor to ceiling glass wall providing expansive views of a gorgeous teak deck, and turquoise salt water infinity pool. Coming off the staircase is a transitional study area that connects to the laundry, and guest bedroom. This transitional area has workspace carved out for when you need to get in the zone and focus to get things done. The laundry room has well designed and thoughtful cabinet space, along with pearl white washer and dryer. A wide rectangular window brings light in, while providing views of the green forest. A sliding door from the transitional area leads to the guest bedroom, which has a twin and full bed. Cabinet space is plentiful, and the guest bedroom has connected bath. Connecting the transition area to the master bedroom is a seascape interior garden with ceiling to floor glass wall, and a wave chandelier reminiscent of the amazing surf that is less than a mile away at one of the best beaches in Costa Rica. A glass door opens to the left allowing direct access to the teak wood deck and pool. Entering the master bedroom, is an expansive space with the sleeping area and bath connected by floating glass panels. Straight ahead the entire wall, floor to ceiling is made of glass with incredible views of the ocean and forest. A 70-gallon freestanding bathtub takes center stage in the bath, while modern square sinks are mounted on Guanacaste wood counter tops. A “his and her” shower with large 10-inch shower heads make for an incredible showering experience while surrounded by Coraline tile with shell and sea creature imprints in the coral reminiscent of the ocean and beach close by. Walking out onto the nearly 1000 square feet hand crafted teak deck barefoot provides an incredible feeling of open space and fresh air with the smooth polished wood underneath your feet. In front of the teak deck is an emerald green, 15,000-gallon infinity edge, salt water pool that has sweeping ocean views. The shallow end is towards the east and deep end towards the west. A wide step on the inner edge of the pool allows you to sit in the warm water, with your beverage of choice, back and arms resting on the deck behind you, while watching the ocean, catching a sunset or just relaxing and rejuvenating yourself. Located along the north Pacific Coast in Guanacaste province, Playa Grande is a vital part of the Marino Las Baulas National Park. After being incorporated into the park in 1990, the beach has been open to the public, but remains a highly protected region because it is a nesting site of the leatherback turtles. Between October and May, turtles come ashore to lay their eggs during the night. Playa Grande is considered to be the most important nesting site of these turtles, and locals take pride in protecting this land for these massive creatures. As the largest of the sea turtles, leatherbacks can grow to be seven feet long and weigh up to 700 kilograms! Playa Grande is often visited for its excellent surfing conditions along the main beach, which has long attracted surfers from across the globe. Playa Grande's waves are accessible to surfers of all skill levels - anyone from a first-time surfer to a pro can hit the waves here.More
