Situated in the beautiful suburb of Karen, Makena’s Place is a charming cottage with gorgeous sprawling gardens. The mature trees and flowering bushes are home to several species of birds that can be enjoyed from the comfort of the veranda. Makena’s Place is a boutique home with African themes running throughout the house. You will enjoy the art work and unique touches in the living areas and bedrooms. All linen is 100% cotton and pillows and covers are hypoallergenic . All mattresses are high density spring for a comfortable night. WiFi is available and in keeping with the peace and tranquillity ideal of Makena’s place, there is no television in the house. Makena's Place has two little playful dogs, They are outside dog and don't come into the house. Breakfast is included and delicious home cooked meals are available on request at an additional cost of $8 p.p (also depends on if your host is available to cook that evening). If you love coffee, you are in luck as there is an Italian coffee making machine. If you prefer tea, your host will brew you the meanest cuppa – Chai! Makena’s Place is named after the vivacious 9 year old who will never fail to keep you entertained. Your host and her daughter have their bedrooms in a separate wing of the house to ensure maximum privacy for both guests and permanent residents. Please note that both the guests and host sleep in the same cottage but in different quarters. Makena’s Place is a 6 minute walk to the modern Karen shopping centre – historically known as the Karen Dukas - where one can find banks, restaurants, supermarkets and African Curio shops. Only 5 minutes away is the famous Talisman restaurant, situated on the main Ngong Road, which leads to the city of Nairobi. The newest establishment in Karen - The Hub which boasts over 10 different restaurants and numerous shops is a 15min walk from Makena's Place. Karen is home to some of some of Nairobi's best known tourist attractions including the Giraffe Centre, the Karen Blixen Museum, the animal orphanage and the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Sanctuary, to name a few. Be aware that you will feel like an intruder in someone's home. The owner and her daughter share ALL of the spaces with you. And you have no privacy except in your bedroom. When we arrived, the 2 "friendly, outdoor " dogs were running around...More

Airport transfers can be arranged for ksh 2500/- (approx US$25) Please let me know in advance if you would like this service Karen is a forested area and therefore cooler than most parts of Nairobi. An extra sweater or shawl would be helpful regardless of the season. July to September are our coldest months. It can get down to 10 degrees at night. So during this months, please bring appropriate clothing.
