If you can imagine what Hawaii must have been like 100 years ago, before all the development during the 20th century, you can perhaps begin to appreciate what Isla Saboga and the Pearl Islands has to offer. It is perhaps one of the world's last unspoiled archipelagos, and the fact that it is only 35 miles from vibrant Panama City makes it even more special. Our home is part of the El Encanto beach development, an eco-friendly grouping of tree-top villas overlooking the beaches on the west side of Isla Saboga. El Encanto has a palapa-style restaurant on the beach, which supplies kayaks, beach chairs and umbrellas, and also coordinates activities such as fishing and sailing for guests. Our Sandpiper studio apartment is located beneath our main house, and is a hotel-room sized unit with a king bed and an additional queen sofa bed to accommodate up to 4 guests. It has a well equipped kitchen, flat screen TV with USB port and satellite connection, and fully tiled bath. The apartment has air conditioning and a ceiling fan as well for those few days when the sea breeze lies down. A concrete patio with patio furniture overlooks the beach only 75 feet away. Our Flipkey listing is for the studio apartment, but if your party is larger than 4, we do have 2 additional bedrooms available at an extra cost. Please inquire if you need more space than the studio apartment. A 1 hour and 45 minute ferry ride from the Trump Tower brings you directly to the dock on Saboga, where we will meet you and bring you back to the house For US TV history buffs, the 7th season of 'Survivor' was filmed here on Saboga, and two additional seasons were shot here in the Pearl Islands as well. 'Survivor' is now an international franchise, and Turkey has just completed filming its own 'Survivor' on neighboring Mogo Mogo island. Whale watching is a favorite activity during the months of July and August, when the humpback whales from Antarctica migrate here to the Bay of Panama to give birth to their calves and escape the cold Antarctic winter. Whales are regularly observed directly from shore, and you can hire a boat to get an even closer look. The Panama Whale Watching Tours operates out of neighboring Contadora, and offers daily tours from June through September.More

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

I just returned form a Panama vacation which included a 4 day stay at El Remanso. It is a singularly lovely location about 50 feet into the palms up the hill from one of Seboga Island's several stunning and deserted beaches. .The Sandpiper suite is a single large bedroom/kitchen and adjoined bathroom. Deck overlooks the ocean.. It is well appointed and enjoys a fairly constant cooling ocean breeze. The host took us back and forth to the ferry and was otherwise attentive and accomodating. I would return in an minute!

The apartment is great - owners/managers very friendly, and pick-up/drop-off was easy and well organized. The location is amazing - it really is just a few steps from a deserted beach. It is possible to walk around to other beaches at low tide too. Would certainly go back!

We were intrigued by Las Perlas and originally considered staying on Contadora, but chose instead El Remanso on the undeveloped neighboring island of Saboga - I believe we chose well. Even in dry season Saboga is lush compared to its smaller fully developed and commercialized neighbor. Sonya a friend of Lee and Jennifer met us at the ferry dock and took us by motorized cart through the jungle to the Western side of Saboga where a handful of homes over looked the Gulf of Panama. Our host was there to show us our apartment which had a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable Queen sized bed and amazing private deck over looking a pristine beach fringed with coconut palms. We spent the next 4 full days hiking the headlands at low tide discovering multiple isolated world class beaches. We had pristine Playa Blanca to ourselves for days with only four other persons passing through. The nearby seabird colonies were impressive - rivaling the Galapagos islands. Don't go if you're expecting a resort experience or want exciting nightlife. We were content with a still wild jungle island, the peace of the deserted beaches, the seabirds in the day and the bats at twilight. Warning - the water can be cold, you must bring your own food and liquor, and the one island restaurant is only open when it pleases the owner.

Isla Saboga is the most unspoiled place I've ever seen. We were looking for a total escape and boy did we find it. El Remanso on Isla Saboga exceeded all of our expectations. We stayed in the Hummingbird Suite which had 5 star accommodations located on the edge of the jungle mere steps away from a stunning private beach. I can't say enough about our host Jennifer. Her knowledge and love for Saboga is unmatched. She is happy to share her knowledge and the advance info which we received upon booking was invaluable. Jennifer we can't thank you enough for providing us with the vacation of a lifetime.

Pick up and drop off was smooth (there are no early check in or late check out fees). The hosts were away but Anita, who was house-sitting, was super helpful. We stayed in Green Parrot Studio Apartment and we were the only guests on the property during our 3-night stay. Quality of sleep was hard to match - the bed did not squeak, ocean waves and a quiet AC motor - that's all all we heard at night. Everything else in the apartment functioned Wi-Fi. A pack of friendly dogs (all belonged to the owners) was hanging around the property but they never bothered us and did not bark in the morning. The sunset view was superb, with a direct beach access right from the double glass doors leading to a patio where we had breakfast. The beach itself had sand flies and was not that spectacular but the island is small so we were able to hike to any other beach on the island in less than 30 minutes. The only village, where we would buy basic provisions, is only 8 minutes walking.

Ultra super recomendable.

El Remanso is definitely what I was searching for: relaxing, disconnection from the rush of the city (although it has a very good and useful - for some quick work if you need it - wi-fi connection) and contact with nature. The room was literally under the trees and with an incredible view for the tiny charming beautiful beach (almost private, once to get there from the regular place where the few tourists come, there´s some rocks barrier). Strongly recommed!

About the neighbourhood
Isla Saboga is an undeveloped island in the bay of Panama, just 35 miles from Panama City. Dozens of secluded, deserted beaches and miles of trails through the tropical jungle are here to explore. Or you can just relax on some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Saboga was the filming location for three seasons of CBS's Survivor TV series, and it retains all the beauty and natural environment. If you can imagine what Hawaii must have been like 100 years ago, Saboga and the Pearl Islands will give you a hint.
Getting around
Most transportation on the island is by foot. There are numerous trails and dirt roads that lead to secluded beaches to explore, and the village on the other side of the island is only a 10 minute walk away. We have a couple of Polaris 4-wheelers and are happy to run guests over to town for a quick trip, or to show you the island. Most other transportation is by panga, the small fishing boats that the locals use to take guests fishing, snorkeling, whale watching or island hopping. We have several pangueros we use and are happy to help arrange trips. Pangas can come pick you up at the beach directly in front of the house.
