Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty in the tranquil and calm Duddon Valley, Duddon View Cottage, as its name suggests, nestles snuggle at the foot of the Duddon River, beloved of Wordsworth and providing plentiful inspiration for his work and writings. There are a few neighbours but more sheep than people to be frank. People and their possessions are very safe in the area and everyone you come across will offer a friendly greeting to visitors. Duddon View delivers everything I can think of - a rolling river nearby, majestic fells/mountains to all sides, a most traditional Cumbrian Cottage, with a fabulous log burner, many original features, and yet lovingly restored, Laura Ashley style, to a very comfortable, indeed bespoke standard. Relaxation is guaranteed, there really is a place where you can go back in time and rest awhile. There's a local pub, The Newfield Inn, within walking distance. A plentiful amount of walks from the door, from gentle strolls to quite high intensity fell climbing. There are also many cycle routes and the area is a favourite with both cyclists and mountain bikers. There is a utility room at the cottage for outdoors wear, boots etc. The ground floor consists of a cosy lounge, the centrepiece a large ornate woodburner set into slate, with two large sumptious sofas surrounding to sink into. A beautiful wooden floor throughout the ground floor leads you through to the ultra modern kitchen, stylish and easy to use, with fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, kettle along with plenty of lovely crockery, cutlery and a well stocked supply of cooking dishes and utensils. Every convenience for your comfort is provided here. Duddon View has its own private water supply, its own water treatment plant and is therefore very eco-friendly. All the appropriate eco friendly products which you will need in the kitchen are provided for you. The stairs and upper floor has plush thick beige carpeting. Half way up the stairs you will find a small window, and like all the other windows, the views are picture frames of rural life outside. Choose either the luxurious king size bedroom or alternatively there is a twin bedded room with full size single beds, both bedrooms coming with their own ensuites attached. Pull up a chair in the little courtyard outside with a good book or a cup of tea and take time to sit and stare - there really is a fabulous panorama of natural beauty all around you. We think one visit won't be enough! Free private parking is available in the cart shed, right next to the cottage. There’s a myriad of enticing possibilities not far from the door. Take a scenic drive over Birker Fell, stunning scenery at the top, and then descend into the Eskdale Valley – from here access Wasdale with ease, where the brave amongst us can tackle Scafell Pike. Or sample The Ravenglass and Eskdale railway – have a little ride on ‘Lal ratty. Over the Wrynose pass will take you down into Langdale, all of it ever so beautiful, and you can easily pick up Ambleside from here, Windermere and even Keswick. Just make sure your car is well serviced as it’s a mountain road! Broughton in Furness, the nearest village is just 20 minutes drive away and you will find an award winning butcher and greengrocer there (you will find a 10% off voucher awaiting your arrival in the cottage), an excellent bakery, and two wonderful cafes, and a few wonderful pubs for eating and drinking too! Details of all these are sent to guests prior to arrival. More
