At The Escape you can relax in front of the Log burner, cook a meal in a fully fitted kitchen or enjoy the hospitality of The Cock Inn 100m away. The Cock, a 16th century coaching inn, has an atmospheric bar, inglenook fireplace and lots of history. The menu is extensive and good value for money. The Escape is surrounded by fields, with a footpath to picturesque Barcombe Mills passing the gate. Walkers are within a short drive of the South Downs National Park, the South Downs Way and the Ashdown Forest, making this a wonderful base for walking breaks. We were looking for somewhere self-catering and near to Glyndebourne for four days - Joy, her husband John and their wee dog Cara made us very welcome. Property was spotlessly clean and it was a pleasure to stay there. Nice and quiet and lovely garden...More

Lovely holiday home for two. Very friendly and helpful hosts who enjoyed showing and sharing their beautiful garden with us. Good food at the pub next door. Lots of places of interest in the local area if you don't wish to venture too far afield.

About the neighbourhood
The county town of Lewes, has historic connections with Simon de Montfort and the English Civil War. It has a medieval Castle and Priory and was the home of Anne of Cleeves, wife of Henry VIII. Lewes has a good selection of interesting independent shops and restaurants. Especially worth a visit are Harveys Brewery shop with Brewery tour and Bills restaurant in the Cliffe High Street. The Bonfire night celebrations on November 5th are world renowned. The fancy dress processions and Fireworks are a sight unrepeated in England. Lewes Artwave festival is late August - early September annually. The Escape is 50km, 45 minutes drive from London Gatwick, via the M23 ,A27 and A26. Nearest railway station is Lewes, where buses and taxis are available. Only 1 hour 10min from London Victoria station.
