The large geothermally heated saltwater pool is shared only with the English owners who live in the nearby house. The property is very peaceful being located along a small track on the edge of the village away from the main road. Just a 10 minute walk into the pretty village of Mortagne there are bakeries, small supermarket, butchers, pizzerias, cafes, tourist office etc. The lower part of the village is a picturesque little port with more restaurants and bars. The golden sandy beaches of St Georges and Royan are 20 mins drive. For those interested in birdwatching the woods, estuary and marshes are a paradise. Our prices are fully inclusive. We don't charge a security deposit, but we do expect breakages to be paid for. Changeover day is Saturday. We ask guests to vacate the cottage by 10am and to arrive after 4pm. There is one bedroom with double bed. The en-suite has shower,wc, basin and heated towel rail. *The kitchen diner is equipped with fitted cupboards, dishwasher, large fridge-freezer, microwave, oven, hob, toaster and sandwich maker. *The utility room has washing machine, iron, ironing board, drying rack, hoover, buckets, brushes etc *The sunny lounge area has french doors onto terrace, a double settee, armchair, WIFI (bring your own laptop) satellite TV, radio (UK channels) DVD, plus books, local maps and board games. The cottage is thoroughly cleaned between rentals. Bed linen and bathroom and poolside towels are supplied and there is a weekly linen change for guests staying 2 weeks or more. Extra bedding available on request. There will be a few basic provisions and a complimentary bottle of local wine when you arrive. We will buy in extra food for your arrival if you let us know. We can also recommend an excellent catering and home delivery service. We cannot accommodate children or pets and ask you not to smoke inside the cottage. Outdoors Charente Maritime is the second sunniest part of France (after Provence) so most of the time you can expect to enjoy fabulous weather and a lot of time outdoors. We try to provide you with everything you need to make the most of this. The outside dining table has a parasol and 4 chairs. There are 2 reclining sunloungers and a BBQ. Secure car parking is behind electronic gates. The 10m x 5m pool is geothermally heated (usually 28 degrees) from May to August and is chlorine free. Wide roman steps allow easy access to the shallow end (0.9m), shelving to the deep end (1.5 m) The electronic cover keeps the pool safe, clean and warm. The pool and its surrounding terrace are on the sheltered side of the cottage set in 1 acre of garden laid mainly to lawn, with trees and flower beds. You will usually have sole, child-free use of the pool. The walk along this track (as well as many other tracks in the area) will take you down through fields of sunflowers, maize and vines, woodland and wild flowers towards the sea. Birdwatchers will be delighted with the many species to be found in the area, especially on the estuary, where you will see avocets, curlews, plovers, storks, egret and many more, and in the garden hoopoes, redstarts and quails. With panoramic views of the Gironde estuary, you are guaranteed a peaceful, relaxing holiday. The village is a 10 minute walk and has all the shops you need. Another 5 minutes brings you to the picturesque port, with its yacht marina and restaurants. Locally there is a good municipal tennis court - free to use- and horseriding . More

Interaction with guests
We will usually be at home to welcome you and available most days to help you make the most of your stay. However you are unlikely to see much of us unless you want to. The cottage is very secluded and we like to respect your privacy. Having lived in this area for 30 years we know this part of France very well and can help with French translation if necessary.

Having stayed in many gites over the last 20 years, Moulin Rampu has to be the best equipped gite, certainly a home from home. The pool and gardens were a little piece of heaven, star gazing of an evening was a joy to see. Howard...More
