The Shearing Shed is part of a beautiful 18th century farm on the edge of the village of Flash, the highest village in Britain, located in a quiet valley in the south west corner of the Peak District National Park. The long driveway leads to a bridleway on the famous Three Shires Head network providing some of the most spectacular walking and riding in the country. The farm is an alpaca breeding business. The Shearing Shed is surrounded by fields of these beautiful and inquisitive creatures and you're welcome to walk among them. Also on-farm are sheep, pigs, chickens, and ducks: a paradise for city children. You can see more of the Shearing Shed and our farm online by searching for farbrookcottages. The living and dining room has a log-burning stove, TV/DVD/SKY, and beautiful floor-to-ceiling window views over the farm. The 3 bedrooms are upstairs: all have twin beds which can be joined to make super-kings if you prefer; the sofabed (sleeps 2) is downstairs. The bathroom is upstairs with walk-in shower. The Shearing Shed has its own gated garden which is secure for small children. There's a barbeque area with seating for eight. We can arrange a rental hot tub for your booking if you'd like: just let us know. The kitchen has plenty of space to cook for a full house with Neff oven, microwave, and induction hob, full-size dishwasher, washer/dryer, fridge/freezer. Well equipped for those who want to do some adventurous cooking! Oil-fired central heating keeps the barn very warm 24 hours a day. There's a telephone, and free wireless internet throughout. Well behaved pets are welcome. No smoking indoors please. Order your groceries online for delivery through Waitrose or Tesco and they'll be here for your arrival. The neighbourhood While many people visit us just to enjoy life on the farm there is also an enormous amount to do locally. Countryside enjoyment starts with some of the best walking and cycling in the country on a network of bridleways and footpaths which start on the doorstep. Theres a trekking centre in Flash so you can enjoy the same on four legs. The less experienced can sign up to a week's course of riding lessons at the local school. This is great badger country: in the evening there's nothing so exciting as watching the dusk exodus of tens of badgers off on their nocturnal rounds. We're surrounded by some of England's most beautiful and exciting country houses. Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Little Moreton Hall, Biddulph Grange, Gawesworth Hall, Capesthorne Hall, Tatton Park, and Lyme Park are all within 20 to 40 minutes drive. Many have spectacular gardens and children's playgrounds. Chatsworth has an outstanding adventure playground. Buxton Opera House has a 7-day programme of family entertainment as well as some opera. Clonter Opera (the Glyndebourne of the north) is about 30 minutes drive and they will cater for your interval dining if you don't want to take your own picnic. Macclesfield has a great 'classic' cinema. Alton Towers (rides and theme park) is 30 minutes away.Macclesfield was the centre of silk production in the 18th century. Many of the mill buildings are still standing and there are several museums covering this great part of our history. Buxton (10 minutes drive) is a spa town and was built by the Romans, there's lots to see here including some fine Georgian architecture. It's our nearest town and probably has all you'll need. Good restaurants including Thai, Italian, Indian, Chinese, and a Pizza Express. Good parks and playgrounds. There are Waitrose, Morrisons, and Aldi, supermarkets. How to get here By Air The nearest airport is Manchester International (one hour by car): good services to London, Europe, USA, and the Middle and Far East. East Midlands Airport is just over an hour away. By train Macclesfield station (20 minutes drive) is on the London-Manchester-Scotland main line (London 2 hours). Buxton station (10 minutes by taxi) is at the end of a local line from Blackpool and Manchester. Car hire Avis have a car rental office at Macclesfield station. Enterprise Car Hire operate a local pick-up service. Airport: Manchester International: 30.0 km Railway: Macclesfield: 10.0 km More
