Interaction with guests
The house manager lives in a nearby village and can be contacted by phone. She gets in touch with guests before arrival to confirm requirements. There are keys in a key safe, and guests are given the code in advance. In the house there is plenty of tourist information about places to visit and things to do, and there is an excellent Tourist Information Centre in the village.

Very old with loads of character. Although a little cold and dusty, this is what we were expecting. Loved the bells on the hour.

About the neighbourhood
Vezelay is a walled village of about 400 inhabitants where the twelfth century basilica has been a centre of pilgimage for hundreds of years. It is on the northern edge of the Parc National du Morvan, with its lakes and hiking trails. There are many good walks and cycle paths in the area. Kayaking, horse riding and cycle hire are available locally. In the village there is an art museum and several private galleries restaurants and shops contained within the medieval ramparts. The wine growing villages of Chablis, Saint Bris, Coulanges la Vineuse and Irancy are close by. The abbey of Fontenay and the source of the Seine, as well as a number of chateaux are easily accessible. The mediaeval market town of Avallon is about 20km away.
Getting around
There is much to see within walking distance of the house, but a car is needed to go further afield.
