Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

I've just come back from a 2 night stay in Yew Tree Cottage. The cottage is comfy and warm with all amenities there are dvds and books to use. A pool and garden on site *if only the weather was good enough to use them* and located near such beautiful sites right near the river. Can't say enough for Stephen he was amazing as soon as We got there explained everything to us and answered all our questions and more and checked on us as we were leaving.

IThis was a lovely surprise to start with as it was a gift but the cottage itself also was a pleasant surprise. very clean and it is equipt with everything you may need. I spent the last weekend with my two dogs there and all 3 of us had an amazing time. The cottage is set in beautiful surroundings - riverside location & country fields all around in a village hamlet. Stephen and Phil are welcoming and somehow they make you feel like you are at home. Warm & cozy cottage. We'll be back. Thank you Atri, Lucie and Scarlett

I stayed here with my Mum and Grandad for one night and it was a brilliant little break. Stephen was very helpful and welcoming and made sure we had everything for our stay. The cottage itself is lovely - immaculate and beautifully furnished with great facilities - the bed and pillows were so comfortable! It was easy to find with Stephen's directions and it's set in a beautiful location. I'd definitely recommend it and if you have time, stay for more than one night.

It was like Enid Blyton's 'Famous Five Escape The Big Smoke'. Myself & 4 friends escaped for a relaxing weekend, which was an easy run up the A1 from London, taking just over an hour. We hired Yew Tree Cottage and Coach Cottage, both sympathetically restored to a high standard, with quality finishes and tasteful decor. We were greeted by our wonderful hosts - Stephen and Phil - and were made to feel extremely welcome and at home. We enjoyed a country walk next to the river, which runs along the bottom of the stunning garden of the main house. We are already planning our return trip in the summer. Fabulous accommodation, fabulous hosts! X

We had a lovely stay in Yew Tree Cottage. The cottage is well equipped and very beautifully decorated, and in a gorgeous, quiet village, right on the river. The surrounding area is also very beautiful with lots of pretty villages and towns nearby. The hosts are super friendly and accommodating, and we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. Thanks Philip and Stephen!

About the neighbourhood
Water Newton is a small hamlet of around 40 houses, mostly built of 'Cotswold stone'. We have an historic church dating back to around 1100AD. The remains of Edward Edwards of Mutiny on the Bounty fame, are interred in the church. We have a working waterways lock which sees high River traffic during the boating season. The village is also famous for the discovery of Roman gold and silver in a field adjacent to Mill Lane, called the Water Newton Treasure (now in the British Museum).
