Kyle of Lochalsh, Lochalsh, Scottish Highlands, Scotland
Welcome to our spacious comfortable 3 bedroomed bungalow. The elevated position gives views over the Skye and the Glen Elg peninsula. The house was awarded 4 stars by VisitScotland in its first season and continues to impress guests.

The large main room is comfortably furnished with a multi-fuel stove, sofas, chairs, TV and the large dining table. The main window looks out onto Lochalsh with views to Skye and Glen Elg. We have provided a telescope and binoculars.

A smaller cosy sitting room has the satellite TV and the WiFi hub. There is a selection of books and games available.

There are three bedrooms which can be configured as one double and two twins or two doubles and one twin. They all have oversized crisp white cotton linen for that touch of luxury, plenty of storage and blackout blinds/curtains.

The kitchen is very we...

I was predisposed to be impressed with Varis before we even arrived. Debra (the owner) sent me an email with very helpful information regarding where to purchase food locally and information for visiting Skye. The food info in particular was very welcome - often that...More

About the neighbourhood
The house is the last in a small cluster of houses elevated on the hill overlooking Kylerhea - the strait between Skye and mainland Scotland. Our guests love watching the every changing view and the boats navigating this highly tidal water.

Paths lead direct from the house into an area of mixed forestry and an extensive network of paths across the Lochalsh penisula. Views from above the house reach to Torridon, Kintail, Knoydart, and the Skye Cullins.

The National Trust for Scotland manage the adjacent Balmacara Estate and there are lovely woodland walks by the shore nearby for those who prefer gentler exercise (and for shelter when its windy).
Getting around
The house is just 500m above the A87, the main route to Skye so you can readily arrive by long distance bus from Glasgow, Edinburgh or Inverness.
But to be frank, public transport in the Highlands isn't great so we recommend your own transport.
There is an extensive set of paths/mountain bike trails above the house.

How to get there
Airport: Inverness: 130.0 km
Railway: Kyle of Lochalsh: 6.0 km
Ferry: Armadale (Skye) : 45.0 km
The house is set 500m away from the A87, the main route to the Skye Bridge. Most visitors will want to have a car as public transport is sparse. Travelling to Kyle of Lochlash by train takes visitors on one of the world's best railway journeys but local car hire must be booked in advance.

From Inverness there is a choice of routes by car either taking the A82 along the shore of Loch Ness before heading west along the A887 before joining the A87 or via the A9, A835, A832 and A890 Loch Carron route .

Similarly, from Edinburgh, the choice is between 1. crossing the Queensferry Bridge and taking the A9 north to Dalwhinnie via Perth, Pitlochry and Blair Atholl before heading west onto the A86 to Spean Bridge before heading along the Great Glen on the A82 before heading west on the A...
