Situated on the banks of the River Severn, slightly elevated to take in some of the most spectacular views, and close to beautiful historic Ironbridge, River Mist benefits from the tranquillity of rural Shropshire, yet only is a few minutes’ drive from all that Ironbridge and the Gorge has to offer. It’s difficult to believe this picturesque town was once the centre of the industrial world, and now tourism is the most precious resource. The many museums trace Ironbridge’s history and the ’Iron Bridge’ itself is a reminder of its importance. Ironbridge has a wonderful cluster of craft and souvenir shops, some great bars and restaurants, and no less than ten museums spread along the banks of the River Severn. For those wishing to explore beyond the beauty of Ironbridge, you can step outside the gorge and get a taste of modern hubs to medieval market towns including Bridgnorth, a picturesque historic town split in two but connected by a unique Victorian cliff railway which still runs today. Madeley, which is just over a mile out of Ironbridge has many listed buildings, one of the grandest being Madeley Court. Medieval Much Wenlock and Newport with its bustling high street with interesting independent shops and plenty of places to eat and drink is well worth a visit. Telford is home to family attractions including Telford Town Park and Wonderland, restaurants and the town centre. Wellington, whose market is one of the oldest in the country, is also worth a visit. Shropshire has an array of outdoor activities on offer from kayaking and canoeing to cycling, walking, gliding, golf, fishing and horse racing. The area is never short of places to visit from castles, abbeys, farms, museums and discovery centres to gardens, parks and historic houses. Shop, pub and restaurant 2½ miles.More

About the neighbourhood
Ironbridge was named after the first Iron Bridge which was built by Abraham Darby III over the River Severn. It spans the river 100ft and was completed in 1779. In 1934 it was designated a Scheduled Ancient Monument and closed to vehicular traffic but tolls for pedestrians were collected until 1950, you can visit the old toll house. In 2017 the bridge under went a major 12 month restoration project costing £3.6 million and taking the bridge back to its original red paint colour as opposed to the black which it has been for many years. Today Ironbridge boasts 10 museums charting the industrial history of the area, the must see museum is at Blists Hill a complete Victorian Town with authentic shops and cottages of the era.
