Outside there is a large safe enclosed garden, sun-trap patio, secure bike storage and parking for 2 cars. High chair & travel cot provided. Smoke-free & no pets. Wonderfully located so it feels like a world away from real life (but super convenient as Tesco/Amazon/John Lewis can all delivery next day if you run out of anything!). Previously highly rated cottage now under new ownership so awaiting new reviews. More

About the neighbourhood
Surrounded by world renowned tourist attractions and sites of natural beauty. Within easy bus/driving distance of all of the Lake District’s famous fells: Helvellyn, Skiddaw, Blencathra, Great Gable, the Langdale Pikes, Coniston Old Man, and of course England’s highest peak Scafell Pike. And the Lakes themselves: Windermere, Coniston, Esthwaite Water (lived by Beatrix Potter who’s home Hill Top is nearby); Grasmere, Bassenthwaite, Rydal Water, Ullswater... Wonderful lunches and afternoon teas can be found in all of the surrounding villages and towns - Hawkshead (also home to a Brewery), Ambleside, Bowness (for boat trips on Windermere and The World of Beatrix Potter), Coniston (5 miles away with water sports and mountain bikes to hire)
Getting around
You don’t need a car once you’re at the cottage as there are plenty of walks to local amenities from the front door as mentioned above. There’s also a bus stop on the Hawkshead - Ambleside- Windermere - Kendal bus route just 200 yards away outside the Outgate Inn. Buses for destinations all over the Lakes leave from Ambleside pretty regularly. That said, there’s so much to see in the Lake District that a few trips out in the car can be good too. Guests have sometimes not used the car all week, others have enjoyed the flexibility to do a longer trip eg to Glenridding (40 mins drive via the Kirkstone Pass) to visit Ullswater or climb Helvellyn) or to Keswick (beautiful 40 min drive via Grasmere & Thirlmere) to see Derwent Water.
