The hamlet of Slad, immortalised by Laurie Lee in 'Cider with Rosie', boasts glorious views, endless great walks and one of the best pubs in the Cotswolds - The Woolpack, just 300 metres from The Old Chapel. Built in 1865, the converted old chapel is stylishly furnished without being contrived. The furniture is a mix of antique, retro and contemporary. It offers very comfortable self-catering holiday accommodation for up to 10 guests (no more than 8 adults) and is ideal for two families to share. The owners continuously maintain the Old Chapel to a high standard. Home comforts include a large and very well equipped kitchen-dining room and a huge open-plan living space with wood-burning stove. Separate TV areas for you and the kids, with smart TV, Playstation and high-speed broadband. With a wonderfully quirky graveyard in the garden the Old Chapel is a long way from your usual self catering Cotswolds holiday cottage. Surrounded by wild flowered meadows, ancient woodland and rolling hills, with breath-taking views and walks directly from the front door, this is an ideal self-catering base for Gloucestershire walking holidays, and is well-positioned for visiting other parts of the Cotswolds, and towns such as Bath and Cirencester. It is available for long weekends, one week and two-week breaks.More

The location is beautiful. Great typical English countryside. Hills, meadows, woods with many good walks. House is very comfortable with all amenities. Stayed there for the second time with 6 persons and our dog, will certainly return again.

About the neighbourhood
Three supermarkets (Waitrose, Sainsbury's and Tesco) are a couple of miles away in Stroud, and they all deliver to The Old Chapel (place your order online in advance) and with Stroud's excellent farmer's market on Saturday mornings stocking up is easy. There's also a Co-op two miles down the road that opens late for basic groceries, alcohol and newspapers.
How to get there
Satnav users, enter postcode GL6 7QD. From Stroud: Take B4070 to Slad. Enter the village, with Woolpack pub on your right. After 300metres, immediately before the road bends and narrows we are on the left, behind a dry stone wall and tall hedge. From A417 / Birdlip: Enter Birdlip village, follow the road round to the right, then turn sharp left on the B4070 to Stroud (left, just after the George pub). Follow the B4070 for 6 miles into Slad. After the 30mph signs, 400 metres into the village there are signs showing the road narrows. The Old Chapel is immediately past the white cottage on the right; pull into the car park behind the drystone wall. By rail, the nearest mainline station is also in Stroud. London Paddington takes 1 hour 38 mins. Birmingham is 1 hour 25mins. Slad is two miles from Stroud station, where taxis are available.
