Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Amazing Stay
We have just returned from a weeks stay at woodend. We had the most amazing time and the property is fantastic. The owners are lovely and very helpful with any information you might need either before or during your stay. We will be booking again for next year.

Calm Easter Break
We had a very pleasant week at Woodend over Easter; this was our second visit and again it was great to be in calm surroundings and to use it as a base for visiting family around Southampton and beyond. Some nights were a little chilly at this time of year, but we coped fine by stoking up the central fireplace in the evening, and using the moveable heater. Mary and Andy were as welcoming and helpful as ever. Great stay, and looking forward to future visits!

We really enjoyed welcoming you on your second visit, and look forward to your next visit. The early morning frosts certainly were memorable for unusually chilly April mornings

Ideal for visiting family and unwinding
We immediately felt at home in the cottage. The owners were very kind and helpful, and a pleasure to meet. The grounds were wonderful to wander around; we saw several deer during our stay. The patio area by the house was particularly lovely to sit in. We enjoyed using both the tennis court and the barbecue (not at the same time!). The cottage had an unfussy old-fashioned charm. There was no dishwasher and only one combined bathroom-toilet, but these weren’t an issue for us. It was however useful to have a pantry - rare to see one of these! There was very good WiFi coverage throughout. Ideal for visiting relatives in the area and unwinding at the same time.

Peaceful Haven
A wonderful little bungalow in a very peaceful setting though only 5 minutes from M27. The bungalow provided sufficient accommodation for our family of four and there was even a bedroom which we didn't use. The house was adequately equipped, clean and comfortable. The furnishings are a little tired and could do with updating. Also there was no welcome basket and we would have appreciated a little milk for tea after a very long journey. There is a large tesco store nearby which is an added bonus. The garden is large and deer, rabbits and woodpeckers can be seen passing through the orchard. There are lots to do in this area. We visited the New Forest with ponies and quaint villages and Portsmouth with the Historical Docks, shops and sea. We even traveled by hovercraft over to the Isle of Wight. Mary and Andy are a lovely friendly couple and are nearby if needed. We would recommend Woodend for a family holiday to this beautiful area.

1940s cottage in wonderful location but in dire need of some TLC.
We stayed at Woodend for nearly four weeks whilst visiting the UK from Australia. It certainly is in a stunning location; the grounds were spacious and well maintained with plenty of room for car parking and Bursledon is an extremely attractive village. The house. Apparently it was converted to living accommodation in the 1940’s and it looks like little has changed since. There’s no central heating, no dishwasher, no clothes dryer. Instead it has a coal burner and a clothes line. Luckily it wasn’t that cold during our April/May visit so we were able to make do with the plug-in electric heaters but if you stay in the winter months you’ll think you were still in the 40’s lugging the coal and raking out fires to stay warm. The house is advertised as being ’simply’ furnished. Really this means a bit scruffy. The sofas had torn arms, cushion covers were stained, drawer handles are missing, chair seats marked, fireside rug grubby, bathroom curtains unravelling etc. Looks and feels (and probably is) furnished with the cast offs from the big house next door. Towels were faded, well-worn and stiff as boards. We were the first visitors of the year and the place smelt musty on arrival having been shut up for months. There was a tiny bit of used soap left for us in the bathroom and some old tea bags in the kitchen - you definitely don’t receive any welcome hampers here. Having said all that, it was mostly clean and the wifi worked well. Kitchen was well equipped and we were comfortable in the house during our stay and could certainly relax with no worries about damaging any of the fixtures. Just leave any fluffy towel expectations at home if you stay here.

Woodend stay
We stayed at Woodend for 2 weeks when we returned to England for a holiday to see family and friends. The house had everything we needed. Mary and Andrew were superb hosts, they were next door if we needed anything however they left us in peace to enjoy our break and peace it was. We had quiet from our surroundings which was great yet only 5- 10 minutes drive to shops. We saw deer, rabbits and squirrels on the property in the mornings. The kids loved the tennis court to run around and burn off some energy! A great property in a great location and would love to stay again next time we visit the UK, thank you Mary and Andrew. X

A great find..
We stayed at woodend for 6 nights in May 2018. It’s situated on a very narrow country lane so was quite difficult to find at first but it is lovely. The grounds are so spacious and well maintained and you even have use of a tennis court. Deer were spotted in the garden daily as were rabbits. Situated ideally for exploring Southampton, Portsmouth or the New forest.

Beautiful, just beautiful
We stayed at Woodend for two weeks. The setting is just gorgeous and our three boys loved playing in very spacious and well maintained grounds. They especially loved the tennis courts. It was such a super treat to have the deer stroll through the gardens more than once. Mary is extremely helpful and on hand should you have any questions. We will definitely stay here again if we travel back to the UK. Thank you Mary :)
