About the neighbourhood
At around a thousand feet elevation, Alstonefield can be breezy and is always two or three degrees cooler than Ashbourne, the nearby mother town. The area has been compared to Switzerland, indeed the architecture in local village, Ilam, is very Swiss inspired. This is great place to access the upper reaches of Dove Dale, the best part, in my opinion. The Manifold Valley and Thors cave are a must to visit, Davidson Attenborough has said it is one for his favourite places to visit.
Getting around
The village of Alstonefield is usually accessed from the A515, Buxton to Ashbourne Road being around seven miles from Ashbourne.
