Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

This is our fourth stay at Chris's cottage. We are fortunate to have close family living in this stunning part of the beautiful ,emerald isle. However, due to the pandemic hadn't seen them in over two very long years. This cottage is cosy ,very clean and calming to the senses .Has everything you need for a comfortable & relaxing stay . We stayed for two weeks ,could've easily stayed for another two !. Two minute walk to the village, and a great central location if you're wanting to travel to different counties. One of my favourite sounds is hearing the Angelus bell from the nearby church of Saint Flannans. You can tell that Chris works hard to maintain her high standards . Thanks Chris ! .

We were a party of four staying here for a week. The cottage works well for a family but can be a bit awkward for non-family members. The house was clean and the kitchen well supplied with most of our needs. Good size refrigerator, stove worked great, as did the washing machine. There is no dryer, but guests have access to the dryer across the street at Christine's B&B. The full size dryer is in a separate building behind the B&B and easily accessible. There is only one bathroom which is a wet room and the drain was very slow so for a shower any longer than a few minutes the water would flood the rest of the room soaking the rug and anything you might have left on the floor. We quickly learned to keep things off the floor, including the rug. The addition of a small shelf in the shower would be great for shampoo, soap, razors and such but we never ran out of hot water and the water pressure was very good. The bathroom is off of the kitchen eating area and to get from any of the bedrooms to the bathroom you need to walk through the living area and kitchen area so privacy can be an issue. The bathroom appears to be newly renovated with an extremely small sink but more than sufficient. There is some storage under the sink but could use with additional towel bars or hooks. The main bedroom is good size with a dressing table and a comfortable chair along with a built in wardrobe. The single room is tight with very little room to put a piece of luggage but with excellent natural light and a small dressing table and mirror. The third room holds a double bed, small dressing table and mirror (which sits far too low to be used by anyone other than a small child) a wardrobe and a small bedside table. I had a small carry on suitcase but found that if I left it out I couldn't open the bedroom door all the way. A slightly brighter bedside lamp would be nice for nighttime reading but for one person the room is comfortable. Only one door of the wardrobe can be open due to the small dressing table being placed in front of the other door. If the mirror was mounted on the wall and a smaller table or even a floating shelf place under the mirror, the space would be greatly enhanced. The space is far too tight for two adults but works well for a single or two children. The living area is a nice size, with a peat burning stove, though not quite enough seating for our group which numbered 7. Two of our group were staying at Christine's B&B which is directly across the street and very lovely. There is no wifi at the house but you can go to the B&B and use the wifi in the lounge area. The parking in the front is perfect for a small car. We had a nine passenger van and while a bit tricky getting out, it was still manageable. We found the small village of Kinnity to be lovely and only about 20-30 minutes to Birr. Groceries available are minimal and only Giltraps for pizza but everything is within walking distance and we enjoyed several nights at the Slieve Boom pub just around the corner. I think this is a lovely cottage and quite sufficient if your needs are not extensive. Although a bit worn in some areas, still well maintained inside and out. The weather while we were there was a bit unsettled but the heat worked well and open windows were more than sufficient when the temps rose a bit. Christine is a great host and very responsive. She's also a local musician so very knowledgeable regarding the local music scene. She recommended several places to us for pub sessions, which were great, and even asked Kieran to open Slieve Bloom a little early as we had friends arriving from another part of Ireland and we didn't have enough room to meet at the house. All in all a great stay and we would definitely stay again. I highly recommend Christine's cottage and/or B&B.

About the neighbourhood
Kinnitty is less than 2 hours from almost anywhere in Ireland. There are many local attractions such as Ireland's most haunted castle Leap Castle, Birr Castle Gardens with it's Giant Telescope, Tullamore Dew Visitor's Centre, Kilbeggan Distillery, Lough Boora Parklands and Sculpture Park where you can hire bicycles to cycle the many looped trails. Nearby heritage sites include Clonmacnoise, the Georgian town of Birr, Emo Court House and Gardens. Not to be missed on Wednesday nights there is a wonderful traditional music and singing session in a nearby pub.
Getting around
Because of the rural location a car is needed to get around. The nearest public transport is Birr where there are a couple of bus companies. There is a train station in Tullamore where you can connect to Dublin or Galway.
