Holiday Rental House
Local photographer and artist has created a comfy cottage in the heart of Muizenberg, three minutes walk from the warm Indian Ocean with its white, sandy Blue Flag beaches that stretch as far as the eye can see. It is in the middle of a caring and supportive neighbourhood. I have divided the bottom half of my house and created a separate cottage. This has a farm house feel with years of collected rural furniture and is surrounded by indigenous gardens and a natural swimming pool with no chemicals, which would be shared with myself and my two daughters. The guest cottage has its own entrance and comprises of two bedrooms, (4 people), two shower bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchenette, lounge and small patio. However, the Western Cape is experiencing the worst drought in over a century, with our dam levels at 20% and only 12% of that is usable. I have 3 tanks that catch all rain water from the gutters. A Gray water system that takes water from the showers and washing machine to water the garden. The indigenous garden does not need much watering, so we are catching our shower water in buckets to use to flush the toilets- and that is only when necessary. I fill buckets that are available from the well point that can be used for flushing. Unfortunately because of this drought, I have had to change my minimum stay 5 nights. Fortunately Muizenberg is a great beach for swimming, surfing, sunbathing, fishing and kite surfing. Zandvlei, the only functioning estuary on the False Bay Coastline is just a minute's walk from the cottage. More

We chose the cottage in Muizenberg to celebrate a 30th birthday. It was a perfect location for beautiful beaches, surf, accessibility to all regions of Cape Town and all the 'must-dos' when visiting the area. The cottage had real charm and reflected the artistic character...More

About the neighbourhood
You can go mountain biking, road cycling, skateboarding like the locals or take surfing lessons at the famous Surfers Corner right on the sandy beaches. There is also the Water-slide and putt putt course around the corner. There are fabulous walks to nearby St James with it's tidal pool, which is great for a relaxing sea swim, Kalk Bay with its famous Brass Bell restaurant right on the sea, and its eclectic mix of craft shops, art galleries and great eateries. With views of the mountain, our Nest Cottage is ideally located to visit the Constantia Valley Wine route, Silvermine Nature Reserve and Simonstown. Also nearby is the famous penguin colony at Boulders Beach. On Sundays there is a local market 2 minutes walk away.
Getting around
The central train line is a seven minute walk from the cottage and travels between Simonstown right into the heart of the Cape Town city centre. There are Uber taxis available and many tours leave from our our Muizenberg Pavilion which is 3 minutes walk away.
