Two pretty bedrooms, with colour coordinated soft furnishings and high quality beds enjoy the same stunning view of the Kyle. Accessed by a rough track, and set in its own private and fully enclosed garden. Balonoe enjoys stunning views across the Kyle of Sutherland to the hills beyond. The property is set on a working farm, and the owner’s sheep and Aberdeen Angus cattle graze nearby. Up to two well behaved dogs are welcomed free of charge. Heating and hot water are provided by an LPG, gas boiler, electricity, bed linen, towels, Broadband Wi-Fi and logs for wood burner are all included. There is a Samsung Smart TV, DVD player and Bluetooth equipped CD and radio. A travel cot, highchair and fire guard are available on request. Welcome pack. Freezer (in shed). Enclosed garden with deck and garden furniture. Lockable bike store. Parking for 2 cars. Smoking is not allowed in the cottage. Balinoe is set amidst stunning scenery, the area is renowned for its beauty and wildlife. Deer, eagles, otters, osprey, pine marten, red squirrels, badgers, foxes and numerous birds are all present in the vicinity. There are renowned mountain biking trails in the local area and fishing, golf, hill walking, climbing and a wide variety of water sports are all local pastimes. Whilst located in a quiet countryside setting, it is easily accessible for exploring the whole of the Highland region, perfect as a base for the NC500. Head west along a spectacular route with mountains, lochs and rivers to Ullapool and Lochinver. A drive to the far north provides equally breathtaking scenery. Head south and Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, is just over an hour’s drive. Watch salmon leaping at the Falls of Shin, visit Royal Dornoch with its beautiful sandstone cathedral, award-winning sandy beach and championship golf course, or explore the grand house and gardens of Dunrobin Castle, seat of the Dukes of Sutherland. Beach 18 miles. Shop 3 miles, pub ¾ miles and restaurant 4 miles. Sister property, Shepherd's Cottage shares the courtyard setting but your privacy is carefully ensured both inside and in your private garden. About the neighbourhood
Balinoe is at the Western end of the Dornoch Firth where the rivers Cassley, Carron and Oykel meet to form the Kyle of Sutherland. A renowned area of scenic beauty, teeming with wildlife including Ospreys and Red Squirrels. Carbisdale Castle sits above the Kyle surrounded by easily accessible forest walks and mountain bike trails. Dornoch with its famous cathedral, golf course and sandy beach are a few miles to the East. Skibo Castle, built by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, is nearby. The seat of the Dukes of Sutherland, Dunrobin Castle, is a 25 minute train ride North. Travelling further North The Castle of Mey, former home of the Queen Mother is open to visitors.
Getting around
The North Highland rail line is just a kilometre away in Culrain linking Inverness in the South with Wick and Thurso in the North. The cottage is on National Cycle Route 1 with many cyclists visiting the area. We have a secure lockable shed for bike storage. A car is recommended if you want to explore the West and further afield. Most parts of the renowned NC500 are within a day trip by car.
