Nostalgia of traditional smoke & steam pervades when the famous Ffestiniog Steam railway runs past the rear of the cottage. Glan yr Afon is a delightful 18th century miner's cottage which retains character and features from a bygone era, such as an impressive inglenook fireplace housing a multi fuel wood burring stove and original exposed beams in the lounge. The cottage overlooks a small mountain river, and open countryside scenery to the front with a backdrop of craggy hillside behind.

Glan yr Afon exudes a warm & friendly welcome and is presented to a good standard with special attention to detail to ensure a comfortable stay is had by all.

Standing amongst some dramatic scenery and enjoying views of countryside and hills encompassing the Manod mountains at the front with a craggy backdrop of the Moelwyn mountains which...

Even though the weather was terrible for our week this little cottage immediately felt homely we'd settled in. Very well equipped and clean. Parking opposite in one of the "bays" is really useful on a narrow road. The scenery is spectacular and there is so much to see. The nearest town is only a mile or so away with a...

Management response:

Thank you for a lovely review and your kind comments, we are so glad you had a lovely stay at our cottage and we hope to welcome you back in the future. Warm wishes, Angie and Rich.

We just got back from a week in this lovely cottage. It is in a good state of repair and decor, and the owners have thought of pretty much every detail which made for a very pleasant stay. All consumables including things like shower gel are provided, and also some nice welcoming wine and cake. It's a charming cottage and...

Just got back from a fantastic weekend away in the heart of Snowdonia. Glan Yr Afon cottage is fantastic. The cottage has been beautifully renovated with a very home from home feel. Everything from the cosy lounge to the well kitted out kitchen, to the spacious bedroom and the wonderful bathroom, this is a place that makes you feel that...

Management response:

Thank you for your comments, alas our cottage is in the small village of Tanygrisiau, about 5 miles away and I fear you may have left your review for the wrong cottage. Thank you anyway and we're glad you enjoyed your stay even if it wasn't with us.

About the neighbourhood
The cottage stands amongst some dramatic scenery and enjoys views of countryside and hillside encompassing the Manod mountains at the front with a craggy backdrop of the Moelwyn mountains which protect the village from much of the wind from northerly gales in the winter and give the village a pleasant southerly aspect with relatively mild weather considering how high it is located in Snowdonia. The cottage is situated in a terrace of about 12 cottages and is located in a quiet position away from the main road and passing traffic, there are parking bays opposite which are for the use of the terrace, so parking should not be a problem, but is on a first come, first served basis.

Situated in the village of Tanygrisiau, meaning Under the Steps, a close neighbour of the larger town, better kno...
