About the neighbourhood
Drakeia was named after Drako, the first inhabitant of the settlement. It was founded in the 15th-16th century by the Epirus craftsmen, where they were moved with their families. It had about 2,500 inhabitants and now about 500. It was then the fourth largest village in Pelion after Almyros, Makrinitsa and Zagora. On 18 December 1943 the SS performed a massive execution of 118 men, thus marking a village of witnesses, while in 1955 the earthquakes destroyed many mansions of the settlement. Today the village still keeps its original architecture and its longlive tradition as a Pelion based village
