Please note 5x night minimum stay. Taken on a Self Catering bases only. Check us out on social media to read more reviews. We are traditionally built and completed in 2007 & are located just a short walk off the Northside Road in the friendly fishing village of Castara on the Caribbean side of Tobago which is a perfect place to work remotely or relax . The two STUDIOS are block built, they are light & airy with high ceilings & have a fully tiled 'wet-room' styled bathroom with shower, hand basin & WC plus hot & cold water. We have fitted filters on the cold water supply in the kitchens so no need to buy bottled water unless you particularly wish to! They are the mirror image of each other & have good cooking facilities with a 'proper Saffire' stove & grill ( not a hot plate !!), large fridge/freezer ( large enough for lots of Carib!) crockery & cooking utensils for 4 & all you will need including a liquidiser for all the fruit from the garden -in season Each studio has a queen size red cedar bed with mosquito nets & sleep 2 people comfortably. We can provide an extra single bed or child's cot if requested. We provide free standing fans + a ceiling fan, although the high ceilings keep all the rooms cool. All doors/windows are made of local cedar & are louvered. No need for AC here! Outside a large balcony has drop down blinds for shade & with table & chairs so that you can eat Al fresco . Perfect for bird watching & sunsets! There is separate access to each studio. There is also a shared BBQ area and pizza/bread oven-check first as sometimes the hens lay their eggs in there!. Free Wi-fi is available to use if you need to work remotely BUT check with your partner to see if he/she will let you spend time on the internet while you are on holiday!! Both of the 2 Sandy Beaches are just a short stroll away ( 200 yards ) where you can fish swim, snorkel with the Stingrays, fish or pull the Seine! We built the house for us and our family and friends to enjoy. The word spread about how good it was so we ended up letting it out to like minded people. You can do as much or as little as you want here. The main thing is to relax and recharge your batteries. That is why we call it the 'Great Escape'. A Bird Watchers paradise. Great local food, fresh fish every day. In the evening visit the bars and 'lime' with the locals. Visit the small local restaurants to taste the local cuisine or cook up the fish you caught (maybe) on the house BBQ then relax and dream about the one that got away! All accommodation is NO SMOKING except on the balconies. Carpe Diem ' Seize the day'More

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Great place to stay with good value. Back a bit and up the hill from the beach, so great views and peaceful. Lots of birds at feeders. Clean. Two double doors open the whole room to nature and the sea views. Owners with great communications, so easy to stay. Castara is busy enough to be fun, but far enough away from the busy SE side of the island for some peace. Swimming is great with a reef with fish and occaisional stingrays that we found amazing. Moderate waves make swimming fun, but not overwhelming. Local car rentals at about $50/day make it easy to explore other beaches and other parts of Tobago. We enjoyed!

Sorry we were not there to meet you! A new grandson meant we were in England. Castara is still relatively unaffected by 'tourism' and visitors ( not tourists ) are able to enjoy a special piece of the Caribbean . You will always be welcomed back to Castara!

Let me begin by saying the only reason I gave 4 stars (I wouldve given 4.5 if it was an option) instead of 5 is because of the pillows. I like fat, fluffy bed pillows and because these were on the flatter side, I had a few sleep deprived nights. So if you prefer to be propped up in bed, bring your own pillows. Otherwise, I think this must be the best lodging in all of Castara. The cottage is owned by a British couple who spent years traveling to Castara before settling there. They know the area and activities/events inside and out--and everyone knows (and likes) them, which made our stay that much more pleasant. They live upstairs and we stayed in one of the two studio-like apartments below. It was quite nice, with a little kitchette, big bathroom and very comfortable bed. There is a wraparound deck which affords gorgeous sea views, as the house is perched on a hillside in the rainforest. It was so peaceful and we were able to see so much wildlife from the deck. Getting to the house from the road could be a challenge for some as the walkway is a tad long and somewhat steep. The location is great, a quick walk to the town's two beaches and in close proximity to eateries and food stands. I cant wait to go back!

We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us & may return in the future- Castara is addictive..but we do wish that you had mentioned the problem with the pillows to us at the time-as we have a whole store of them & could have easily swapped or given you extra ones! Some guests prefer different types & so the beds are usually supplied with a selection of 4 to choose from + 2 smaller cushion to prop yourself up on.. We have recently improved the path up to the house & have also added a new metal handrail which we hope will make the short walk easier.

A great vacation can only happen if the location, accommodation and people are great too. Although I had not spoken or met Yvonne or Chris the information and helpfulness was fantastic, especially when my airline decided to change the date of my flight. I know when I first thought about rental, I thought "what if this" and "what if that" well please rest assured you have found the right village and certainly reading the reviews for one of the best (if not the best) places to rent here in Castara. I had the pleasure of staying 19 nights in one of the two studios available at Carpe Diem. The accommodation has everything you need, plus a view across the bay that should cost millions. My day started with me making a nice pot of coffee and sitting on the balcony eating some locally baked bread, whilst feeding the exotic birds that land just a few feet from my table...great fun. Then a short downhill walk (do speak with Yvonne about access as its fairly steep to Heavenly Bay) It ends with my top tip for wildlife at Carpe Diem and all the friends I met couldn't match this where they stayed: Before retiring to bed for the night place a peeled banana on the bird feeding areas on your balcony of the accommodation: make yourself a nice ice cold rum punch and watch the fruit bats come into feed, its such good fun. Carpe Diem is in such a lovely location, having got options to choose which beach to visit and the outlook is stunning: I hope you enjoy Castara and more importantly Carpe Diem as much as I did.

We were graced to have found the owners and our pad. There were times in our stay when, even though we are constant explorers, that we did not want to leave the front deck. Birds and lizards all over the place....as well as lovely owners and other guests. This is truly one of the places we have visited that feels as though there is a convergence of great spirit. Thank you for "finding" us.

My husband and I chose to stay in Castara for an 8-day vacation in February 2015 and found the Carpe Diem Villa on tripadvisor. We shared Chris & Yvonne's place upstairs and wondered if staying in someone's space would be OK - all of the wonderful reviews suggested it'd be OK, so we gave it a whirl. We are so HAPPY we did! Yvonne and Professor are absolutely amazing people, who made our first trip to the Caribbean unforgettable and provided us with great advice, stories and help when we needed. We loved everything about their house, garden, and the room itself. All we can say is THANK YOU!

We really enjoyed our 2 week stay here. The accomodation was good, very clean, and as described with everything we needed at hand. The views are fantasic and it was lovely to wake up and look out over the bay in the early morning. The village is very friendly and there are enough small shops and places to eat. We bought fish from the daily catch from the fishermen and cooked ourselves on a couple of nights which was great. Second week we hired a car and visited other parts of this beautiful island. Found some fabulous beaches, our favourite was Pirates bay over the steep climb at Charlotteville. We did a lot of snorkling and found Little bay at Castara to be as good as anywhere else. There was a great variety of life in the sea including turtles and rays, but the last couple of days there were jelly fish. Very sad to leave.

Carpe Diem is ideally positioned, the sea/beach and village are easily accessible and the accomodation is placed such that you observe the birds and wild life without having to move from the comfort of the veranda. The studio inside is comfortable and met our needs for our 2 week stay, although most of our time was spent outside. From the start of our enquiry Chris and Yvonne the owners responded in a timely manner and were able to reassure and inform when questions arose, they arrived soon after us and were so helpful with their knowledge of the area and resources but without being too intrusive, they also shared their veranda to watch the beautiful sun sets. Castara the village is an enjoyable experience, there are no holiday complexes, just the relaxed atmosphere that the locals provide. In all this was a totally relaxing carefree holiday and would recommend to all who enjoy uncommercial holidays.

Sorry we missed you! It is always great to be able to put faces to the names of people we have been 'talking' to on the internet. The friendliness and helpfulness of the people here in the village was one of the main things that convinced us that this was where we wanted to be. Thankyou for such a lovely review.

Yvonne and the Professor were amazing in every way possible, from the time we submitted the request for booking until after we had already gotten home! The room is fantastic with a nice little kitchenette, bathroom, and comfy bed, as well as an amazing view of the whole Castara Bay! We went with no expectations as this was our first overseas travel together and we were completely blown away. The kitchen was stocked with all the necessary utensils, pots, and pans which allowed us to plan and cook many of our own meals in the room when we didn't feel like going out to dinner. When we did go out to dinner we had many different options, although we had to ask each restaurant in town if they were actually cooking dinner each night and make our decision based off that. The area is gorgeous with so much to offer tourists. The beaches are amazing and there is never too many people there. The weather was perfect in Jan, other than the extra rain they received, regardless it was still warm every day. The locals are extremely nice and helpful as well. We had to leave early due to a family emergency, however they were extremely helpful with every detail of getting off of the island, from offering assistance with arranging transportation to the airport late at night, to ensuring we were fed prior to leaving, also ensuring us to not worry about the state of the room so we could head out in a rush. There is no a/c, which is normal on the island, however with the villa doors open while we were in the room it was perfectly comfortable! The wi-fi worked just fine in every part of the villa, sometimes it would have issues when on the patio, however it did rain a lot so it may have been from that. Just an amazing stay overall and so completely affordable for us! Thank you so much again Yvonne and Professor, we thoroughly enjoyed our 1 1/2 week stay! We will definitely recommend Carpe Diem to anyone looking for a unique place to go and a place to stay!!

There we were, stuck in Castara with no place to stay for one night. We were "between" stays in Castara Cottage, and were starting to wonder if we'd have to spend the night in the rental car (no, it wasn't really quite that bad), when suddenly appeared two guardian angels, Chris "The Professor" and Yvonne of Carpe Diem. It didn't hurt that we were all sharing a sunset beer down at the Boathouse at the time. They graciously offered to put us up for the night in one of their rooms. So up the hill we wandered, admiring the colorful lizards, banana plants and birds along the path as we went. And discovered a delightful tropical house perched on the hillside overlooking Castara bay. The room was spotless, the location quiet (keep in mind "quiet" is a relative term in Castara) and the bird feeders a source of constant entertainment. Thank you Professor and Yvonne!

Hi Bob & Gitti Glad that we were able to help & that you enjoyed your stay with us even though short-its always worth asking the question as sometimes we have gaps inbetween flights days & the Boathouse on Little bay is a good melting pot-good food & vibes. Perfect for "liming" as its only just a short walk away. Keep in touch Prof & Mrs Prof
