It is renowned for its miles of golden beaches (Blue Flag Award) and turquoise water The area has its own Irish College where children come in summer to learn the Irish Language The area has a unique history and culture and was the mainland connection for the monks that lived on Skellig Michael The Blue Flag Beach, where the 16th Century Castle of the McCarthy was built to protect the bay from pirates is a few minutes walk from Dungegan and is spectacular in fine weather but also makes for a beautiful setting for walking or some quiet thought on a blustery day The village of Dungegan is typical of most rural Irish villages. Village life is centered on the local pubs in the evenings, where you can enjoy traditional Irish music and dancing. It is easily accessible through Cork and Kerry airports and 1 hour drive from Killarney train station. 1 hour drive from Kerry Airport (Direct flights with Ryan Air from Dublin, London Luton & Stansted and Frankfurt Hahn)Back of house is a secluded Large patio area for outdoor eating with BBQ & wooden garden furniture, overlooking the expanse of the Bay and there is an landscaped garden a dry stone wall & Ranch style wooden gate at entrance. For the lazy days there are plenty of distractions satellite television, DVDs, books, X-box, games, & board games. There is a real open fire in the sitting room. Some of the nearby lakes and beaches attract anglers from all over Europe and there are fishing rods and tackle for use by anyone interested. Ballinskelligs Water sports is locally based & hires kayaks, boats and windsurfing. , scuba diving can be done also. Local areas of interest Valentia Island, Knightstown-Cahirciveen Ferry, Glanleam House Sub Tropical Gardens, Skellig Rocks Boat Trips, St Finians Bay (Surfing), Waterville & Skelligs Golf Courses, Portmagee Village, Waterville Lake Fishing, Sailing and Kayaking and Skelligs Chocolate Factory. Beautiful walks, cycles and drives. Award winning seafood restaurants. A highlight is a boat trip from the local pier to the stunning Skellig Michael .Skellig. Rock The Skellig rocks, which are located 12kms off the coast of Kerry, are of such an importance that they have been made a World Heritage Site. Nothing else will ever compare to this getaway location by the beach.

The cottage had a magical setting with calming waves below. A great place to leave the noise of daily life behind. Leesha, the owner was very helpful making our visit a memorable one.

So cozy!

What a lovely home, perfectly situated overlooking the Ocean. It's exactly how I pictured Ireland in my mind! There is a local pub (of course) within walking distance and a beach really close by where you can go for a nice romantic stroll. The inside...More

What a view!

I couldn't have asked for a better home. The view is spectacular and only steps from the Ocean. Inside, you can cozy up to a nice fire go upstairs to watch the stars at night. I'll be booking this home again in the future.

Terrific place for a family reunion

We rented the cottage for a week and had an amazing family reunion. There was so much to do in the area, it was a perfect central location for all the activities we had planned. Weather was fantastic and we even managed to go kayaking...More

My trip to Innisfree

It was a great holiday. Really, really fantastic scenery and really helpful advice from the owner on what and where to eat and attractions to see. The cherry on the cake was the trip to Skellig Michael.
