Perfect for family holidays, where spending 'quality time together' is important, whether it's playing board games, hunting for fairies in the fairy garden, playing shops/landlord/landlady with the original till full of real money or perhaps even holding your own darts tournament, there's something for who Conroy's is also fondly referred to as 'The Pub With No Beer !' Please Note: Conroy's Old Bar is completely DRY of alcohol, making it perfect for families. Also Note: There are NO facilities to install a keg. For a holiday with a real difference! Unique and quirky self-catering accommodation sleeps up to 4+cot The Garden of Conroy's Old Bar is now home to the World of Fairies, Fairy Garden. For FAMILY SPECIAL PRICES. (2 Adults and upto 3 children) please contact us. Conroy’s Old Bar is especially suited to those who have a love of the great outdoors. Who would like to experience the true beauty and tranquillity of rural Ireland, whilst staying in a converted authentic Irish village bar. Conroy’s is situated close to Lough Derg/Terryglass and the River Shannon. And on the border of Counties Clare, Galway and Offaly, in the small friendly village of Aglish in North Tipperary. Walking into Conroy's Old Bar is just as you would expect a typical, traditional, characterful Irish rural village bar to be. So much so, that you would think it’s business as usual. At first glance you would never know that Conroy's no longer holds a liquor licence, and that so, it has been discreetly adapted into quirky self-catering accommodation that sleeps 4 +cot. It's not until you take a closer look that you realise, even though Conroy's Old Bar has retained all of its charm and character, including its real turf fire, Conroy’s Old Bar is hiding a little secret all of its own……. The original highly polished mahogany bar, complete with bar pumps, optics and the original till is where you will also find neatly hidden behind it, the fully functioning kitchen, with fridge, full size cooker etc. The bar area with its Liscannor stone floor is also home to the dartsboard and the skittles game. The lounge with its cosy open turf/log fire is also home to all manner of pub games, books, maps and tourist information. It’s the perfect place to relax and toast your toes after a long day of taking in what this beautiful and very often overlooked area of rural Ireland has to offer. The old snug next to the lounge is now a double bedroom with en-suite wc and what was once the cellar/keg store is now home to a super king-sized bed, complete with the old beer barrel delivery door and sloping floor to aid the moving of the barrels. There is also a shower room with very large shower. There is full central heating and all linen, towels and fuel are provided. Outside there is a large beer garden with numerous seating and BBQ areas, from which there are views over the Tipperary countryside. It's the perfect place to watch the sun go down, sat in front of the open outdoor fire. Conroy's Old Bar is child friendly and all baby/child equipment is available. (Cot's, high chairs etc. at NO extra cost) The World of Fairies, Fairy Garden. When you book a Family Stay at Conroy's Old Bar, the children can while away the hours discovering the real life Fairy doors and houses in the enchanting Fairy Garden. They can play safely outside Milo Burrows Hobbit Hole, or in the Leprechauns Pirate Ship, and design their very own Fairy doors on our huge chalkboards. Disabled Facilities. Being all on one level means Conroy’s Old Bar is friendly to the slightly infirm or those who have trouble with stairs. The shower is large enough to put a chair into, to help with those who are unable to stand for longer periods. Unfortunately due to a couple of narrow doorways, it has to be said that Conroy’s is not too wheelchair friendly. For anyone who has specific needs, we are always more than happy to talk with you, to see if we can arrange and adapt the furniture etc. to make your stay a more pleasant one. Only a short walk from Conroy's Old Bar you will find the village pub and a lovely new children’s playground. There is also a church and the village hall. Within a 20 mile radius you will find fishing, boating/sailing, water sports, walking, cycling, golf, horse riding/hunting, photography, go carting or even astronomy and genealogy.More

Interaction with guestsWe always greet our guests when they arrive. We will show you around the more quirky elements of Conroy's Old Bar and then leave you to enjoy your stay. As we only live next door to Conroy's, we are on hand should you need help, advice or recommendations on where to go or what to see etc. We are always happy to interact with guests, but we also appreciate that some guests just like to be left to enjoy their time in Conroy's Old Bar alone, which we are also happy to do.

Conroys old bar is peace personified, if rest, relaxation and a little bit of quiet is what you need then this is the place for you. The difference here is that you are staying in what once was the village pub.Although the pub no longer serves alcohol you will be drunk on the quirkiness of your surroundings, the original bar is intact, the "ladies" snug is a bedroom, the old barrel store another, there is a sitting room with an open fire, an outdoor smoking area and chickens in the garden from which you can liberate fresh eggs.We were greeted on arrival by the really lovely Erron, a Grimsby Lass who has all the charm of Irish village landlady. She showed us around, gave us fresh eggs, turf for the fire and home made shortbread biscuits, you simply cannot fault Errons hospitality. We stayed for two nights and explored the area a bit, The first night we were too tired to go out so we dined in, ordering in a chipper from Luigis of borrisokane and delicious it was too, the second night which was our thirtieth wedding anniversary we headed to the Derg Inn beside lough derg in Terryglass, what a choice of venue, the food was top class. Overall this was a beautiful setting in a really quiet village to spend a few days. If you're looking for something that is just a bit differenet a bit out of the ordinary then Conroys is the place to go, tell Erron I sent ya.

About the neighbourhood
Conroy's Old Bar is situated in a small friendly village, very rural, some would say remote area. Where time goes by more slowly, and complete strangers will pass the time of day with you. Aglish is approx. 3 miles from the centre Ireland, and is home to a children's playground, church, village pub, school and village hall. Aglish is on The O'Sullivan Beara Way, Ireland's longest walking trail, which links counties Cork, Kerry. Part of the Hidden Heartlands, Lough Derg/R.Shannon area, renowned for fishing, boating, water sports, walking, golf, cycling, music & horse riding. The nearest shop is approx 4 miles away in the small town of Borrisokane. The nearest harbours, good pubs/restaurants approx 6 miles away in Terryglass & Portumna.
Getting around
A car is a necessity to experience all that this beautiful part of Ireland has to offer. The Lough Derg region is largely undiscovered by mass tourism and coach tours. Close to Lough Derg and the River Shannon, on the boarders of Counties Offaly, Clare and Galway, in the heart of rural Ireland.
