Castle
A unique castle experience in Scotland! When we traveled around Scotland in 2014 we were disappointed that we could not find a castle that 'felt like a castle' once inside. When we saw Kilmartin Castle for sale, it had been a ruin for 200 years and was in an incredibly original state. Typically, the Victorians would make the windows larger and add ugly extensions to buildings like this one. Luckily, Kilmartin Castle was overlooked and left roofless for 200 years. It was the perfect building to create the genuine Scottish castle experience we had been looking for as travellers. We quit our jobs, sold everything we owned, and moved across the world to start renovations. Work finished in 2019 and Kilmartin Castle now has 5 bedrooms that have been individually designed to provide modern-day luxury including copper tubs and wood-burning stoves, walk-in rain showers, underfloor heating, and of course, luxury linen, towels and robes! The grand hall is the heart of the castle, with a roaring fire to share stories around in the evenings. Our kitchen has been designed with sociability in mind and is a great place to cook as a group. The kitchen has everything you will need to cook up a feast and the barrel-vaulted dining room is a special place to enjoy dinner. We can also introduce you to our private chef if you would like to take the night off! This castle is not purely a holiday home, but our home, and we love sharing with people who appreciate these old buildings being brought back to life! Kilmartin Castle is now open as a luxury bed and breakfast throughout 2021, offering exclusive stays to groups of up to 10 people. From 2022 we will no longer be offering bed and breakfast, only exclusive stays. THE AREA Kilmartin Castle sits over Kilmartin Glen, one of the most important archeological areas in Scotland. The Glen is glacial and human inhabitation dates back to the neolithic period. Standing stones are dotted around the landscape and have been here longer than the pyramids in Egypt. The local pub, serving dinner, is a traditional Scottish pub, and within walking distance of the castle. PRICES Please reach out for prices of bed and breakfast rooms. They start from £190 per night including a 2-course breakfast. Vegan and vegetarian options are always available. We have a 2-night minimum stay at the bed and breakfast. For the exclusive use of Kilmartin Castle, our rates are correctly reflected on this website as well as our own. More

Its not often you get top holiday in a castle, its very warm and comfortable and having a whisky in front of the log fire at the end of a long day sight seeing tops it off. my only problem is that i couldn't stay...More

Kilmartin Castle was fantastic. The incredibly helpful Louise graciously came out late to help us find the castle and get us settled in. Simon and Stef were out of town, but left us a lovely welcome basket. The combination of history with little touches of...More

We recently spent a night in Kilmartin Castle and our expectations were far exceeded. The castle itself is located within walking distance of town but feels completely private. We felt immediately welcome and at home upon arrival, as no detail had been overlooked. There were...More

This place is absolutely amazing. It is not only a wonderful space, it is a piece of the local history and an experience in itself. Sure, the castle does not come with over the top luxury but it is more than adequate! When we arrived,...More

Amazing retreat! All the way from Portugal we were enchanted by the beautiful scenery and the beautiful views. Beautiful place, and how crazy it is to stay in a castle? Who doesn't want that? Recommend it to anyone! Loved loved Kilmartin

We stayed at Kilmartin castle for 3 nights in July and absolutely loved the rustic, private location. It was great to have the option to cook for ourselves in the castle's kitchen, or head to the great local pubs or cafe at the Kilmartin museum...More

Very disappointing. There is basic and then totally unprepared and unfinished/ furnished and this was the latter. We run holiday accommodation in Cornwall and travelled a long way for our glimpse of Scotland and felt cheated in every sense. Poor show.More

About the neighbourhood
Kilmartin Museum has just received a large grant as so many treasures are still being discovered in our glen. There are too many great walks to do on one trip and most guests say that they wish they had stayed longer.
