About the neighbourhood
Beaches: within an easy drive lies Broad Haven with an expanse of golden sand, safe bathing, and rock pools. Futher along the coast are the beaches of Little Haven, Druidston, Nolton and the surfer's paradise Newgale. Boats to the marine reserve islands of Skomer and Skokholm leave from Martin's Haven. Dale beach is popular with sailors and windsurfers. Milford is ten minutes drive from the Cleddau Toll bridge for Pembroke town and the sandy beaches of Tenby, Saundersfoot and Barafundle. Away from Milford there's a host of places to visit - heritage sites such as St. Davids Cathedral and Pembroke Castle, the bustling traditional resorts of Tenby and Saundersfoot and a wealth of exciting attractions and activities such as - Oakwood Adventure Park, Folly Farm, and Hetherton's Sports . Milford Golf club is within easy reach. The County town of Haverfordwest - is 15 minutes by car. Pembrokeshire's stunning National Park extends inland to the magical Preseli Hills. Further Details: Milford Haven was developed in the late 18th Century, Milford Haven by Quakers from Nantucket as a whaling port. Later described by Lord Nelson in 1802 as being 'one of the finest harbours seen' it developed in the early part of the 20th Century as an important base for the fishing industry. The old harbour was featured regularly in the 70's Onedin Line T.V show and later the hosted the start of the 1991 Tall Ships Race. Now it is an expanding marina with over 200 berths whilst still being used by trawlers. The Smoke House Quay Apartments just along the quay from the Marina basin is a really super development. The apartments enjoy view across the magnificent Haven Waterway which is busy with leisure boating and commercial shipping all year round. Forget train-spotting, instead take up ship-spotting from the comfort of your sofa. There is a waterway view from both bedrooms and living room - the twin bedroom even has a unique 'porthole' window. Take a drink onto the balcony and keep up with in the maritime action! Coast/Beach: The Marina features restaurants, bars, a gallery, museum and ten pin bowling. Within an easy stroll of the apartment is a retail park which includes Tescos, Boots and the town's railway station. Within the town itself are a variety of shops, banks, a sports centre with swimming pool and the award winning Torch Theatre.
Getting around
Milford Haven is at the Centre of Pembrokeshire. It is very easy to drive to the South of the County - Tenby, Saundersfoot, and Pembroke and all the fabulous beaches by going over the Cleddau Bridge. Or the West where you'll find 'Britain's smallest city' ST. Davids with its wonderful cathedral and a host of wide beaches and smaller coves - Newgale, Broadhaven, Marloes, Whitesand. In the North of the County are the magical Preseli Hills and coastal towns of Fishguard, Newport and Cardigan. All this - and more - can be reached within an hour of Milford. If you come by train there (of if you want to have a day without your car ) there are buses which are operated by the National Park along the entire coast.
How to get there
Travel: Dual carriageway links from the M4 which terminates near Carmarthen means that Pembrokeshire is now within a two-hour drive of the Severn Crossing. There are car- ferry services to Ireland from Fishguard and the Port of Pembroke. If travelling westwards on the M4 or the A40 follow the A40 dual carriageway from Carmarthen to Haverfordwest. If you are coming from the North follow the A487 from Cardigan. Branch off left after Eglwyswrw on to the B4329 to Haverfordwest. For Sat Nav: SA73 3BD
