As you explore Edinburgh Castle, take in the stunning city views and learn about its rich history. You can spend hours visiting the exhibits, listening to the audio tour, and admiring the Scottish Crown Jewels. Tip: Reserve tickets in advance to avoid the queue and bring your own snacks because there's no on-site café.

A mandatory landmark to visit in Edinburgh! It keeps the history of the city and the importance for Scottish resistance over time. During the visit, be sure to schedule yourself to watch the shot of one of those cannons that remain active. It's fast and ritualistic!

Visited as a family, 2 adults and a 9 year old. The staff were all brilliant, so warm and friendly and happy to share information. We bought a guidebook which was helpful for working out which bits we had seen and which we still needed to see. The nature of the castle is that buildings have been added over the years, so the history was fascinating, spanning just over a thousand years. We were lucky with the weather, and enjoyed a brew and a scone in the cafe. The castle was busy but managed brilliantly, and the only queues were the crown jewels which we were happy to queue for. It took about 15 minutes, which isn't that bad I don't think. Really enjoyed it all, particular favourites were the prison cells and prison doors on display, and of course the crown jewels. We were there from 0930 until about 1pm, and saw just about everything.

Very nice attraction in Edinburgh but unfortunately there were way too many people. I know it’s peak season but there should be a decent limit on how many should be let in at a time. Luckily most of the people skipped the Scottish war museum which was my favorite part.

Loved every bit of this. Highly recommend going around 11 am in the morning so you can explore the whole castle and be prepared to watch 1 pm gunshot, which we personally loved. Well kept history. And the views!! Omg! 😍😍
