Bucerias (meaning "place of divers") is was originally a quaint fishing town that has now grown into a favorite destination for those who don't want the hustle and bustle of Puerto Vallarta, but enjoy amenities of a vacation resort town.  Nestled between Nuevo Vallarta and La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Bucerias has truly come into its own as a favored spot for vacationers.

Bucerias, which is in Riviera Nayarit, is surrounded by mountains and jungle with 345 days of sunshine a year.  Bucerias has a consistent day time temperature of 80 degrees F (27 C) during the peak visitor season with a cool breeze at night from the ocean that makes sleeping pleasant.  Temperatures in the summer months can reach up to 90 degrees F (32 C) or more. The warmest months are August and September.  From June to September (the rainy season) you can expect late afternoon showers that bring colorful, flourishing vegetation!

Bucerias is only about 10 km / 20 minutes from the Gustavo Diaz International airport (PVR).  You can easily take a cab to Bucerias or, for the more adventurous, public buses run frequently and cost $12 Pesos (about $1 USD).  Simply cross the highway via the pedestrian walkway and look for a bus with "Bucerias" painted on the windshield.

You can tell by the numerous construction projects and the addition of the MegaComercial store that Bucerias is growing. Myriad restaurants fit every taste and budget.  Try the local favorites such as tacos right on the street, fresh seafood and every kind of cuisine from Mediterranean , Chinese, Japanese, French to regional Mexican.  Nearby agriculture and the abundant ocean mean all ingredients are fresh and local and restaurants are offering  more and more vegan, vegetarian and organic options.

Organic pork chop, fresh red snapper and Ahi Tuna from Mark's Bar & Grill are some of the gorgeous local ingredients used to prepare the fabulous food offered by Bucerias restaurants

Any number of tours and activities are available in and around Bucerias both on land and water.

From zip lines over the jungle canopy to horseback riding on the beach to golf and sportsfishing, there is no end to the things to do

Bucerias also has many art galleries and boutiques with excellent respresentation of Mexican and international art and crafts. The popular Art Walk from November through April on Thursdays starting around 7 pm along Calle Lazaro Cardenas is a favorite among visitors and residents.

One of the best reasons to be in Bucerias is that it boasts 5 miles (8 KM) of sandy beach which extends as far as Tizate to the north and Nuevo Vallarta to the south for a total of more than 18 kilometers making it the longest in Banderas Bay. The shallow water and the waves are great for body boarding and swimming. Windy afternoons make Bucerias an absolute favorite among kite boarders.
