Note to connected travellers to Santa Teresa: the town has ZERO coverage on the Claro network. Zero. Apparently same for Movistar. Everyone here uses Kolbi phones, and that's what you'll want to pick up if you're looking to buy mobiles or USB 3G modems for your before arriving.
Don't be tempted by Claro's promise of 2 mbps wireless connections -- even though Kolbi maxes out at 1 mbps, it's a lot better than owning useless Claro paperweights (speaking from experience).
In any case, WiFi seems excellent in town so the backup 3G modem may have been overkill.
