Of course there are many different reasons for vacations in Hawaii, but one major one is and always has been the activities that one can do on the island playground.

Any and everything to do with the water is possible in Hawaii. In Hilo, snorkeling is the most popular and there are several great places to see the incredible marine life off of the Big Island.

Leleiwi Beach Park is located just outside of Hilo and is a great place to see sea turtles. You will also be amongst hardened lava rocks reminding you of just how young the island is. Right next to Leleiwi Beach is Richardson's Beach Park, most people snorkel in both bays in the same day.

About 30 minutes away are the Kapoho Tide Pools that are protected from the rough surf of the ocean, creating a swimming and snorkeling paradise.

Water activities are not the only option however. The Big Island hosts 3 Female Adult Roller Derby and 2 Jr Roller Derby Teams.  Hilo's Paradise Roller Girls are the Hawaii State Roller Derby Champions for 2013 & 2014.  They play games all over the Island and mainland, but call the Afook Chinen Civic Auditorium their home track.  Games are family friendly and fun to watch, with only $5 addmission, their games cannot be missed!

You may wish to golf at Hilo Municipal Golf Course. Hike at Akaka Falls State Park, or go biking, call 808-961-4452 for a list of trails.

Check with your hotel before setting off for any sport activities as most offer equipement for rent or use.
