If you're traveling in west Texas, Snyder is a great little place to stop.

Halfway between Abilene and Lubbock, it has a population of about 12,000, and has a great golf course at Western Texas College, the local community college.

Several good restaurants which include offerings from Tex Mex to barbecue to Chicken Fried Steak.

It also has several of the reliable chain restaurants and hotels, and of course, a Wal-Mart.

It's annual Fourth of July celebration, including Parade, Events and Fireworks draw thousands of visitors from miles around.

It's also host to the annual Swing Music Festival in the summertime, and White Buffalo Days in the fall.

There's a great coffee shop downtown called the Manhatten Cafe, and an interesting retreat out in the country called the Windmill Ranch Preserve.

Snyder's definitely worth an exit off the highway.
