It was only a little while back that you couldn't even get TV reception in Daintree and radio reception wasn't all that good.
With the exception of a black spot near the crossroads the south side of the Daintree River has mobile coverage for mobile phones plus web phones, laptops and tablets. There are three telco's who provide the service; Telstra, Optus and now Dodo.
There is limited coverage on the north side of the Daintree River. There is no coverage at Cape Tribulation but further south on the coast there is patchy reception. Some of the accommodation places on the north side have WIFI for guests and they have been able to telephone out on Skype using their own phones.
There is now a native mobile phone app which will overcome the mobile phone reception problem. The app is available on the App Store or on the Android Market, just search for Daintree.
